DFX Green . . . ARGH never again!!

Hi Everyone

This morning my little boy (who usually hates being painted becasue it tickles) asked that I pint a green monster on him (his favourite colour is green). I was really happy with my first ever monster . . . until it was time to get it off!! I love my DFX paints but now understand the staining issue, after a bath, a shower, face wash, baby shampoo, soap and moisturiser, Jack is still green, a lot lighter green than originally but still green. We have to go out to lunch tomorrow and I think I will need to convince him to let me paint something else on him before we go out. So after my ramblings my question is (I'm too scared to try this in case I turn him into the hulk again) if I were to sponge on white as a base then put the green over the top would this avoid the staining?

Any other thoughts would definitley be appreciated as at the moment he wants everything in green . . . and if anyone has an amazing solution for turning Jack back to his normal colour, well that will avoid a lot of explaining at my in laws birthday lunch. Thanks everyone!!

I use the UNDER MAKE-UP BASE of Grimas.(under Green,Yellow and Blue paint)
It is a face cream and works against stains.

You can also put a (light skin color) cake make-up under the paint.

I had that happen to a little boy I painted at the farmer's market last year, one of the vendor's sons. She told me the following week about it and would never let him be painted with green again (thank goodness she did let him get painted with other colours though!).

I too now put a base coat on underneath, usually silver but I am going to try metallic white next (just ordered some). The silver gives a nice metallic-y sheen that shows through that I like.

I see that you have already tried moisturizer, that was going to be my suggestion. Lay it on thick and let it soak in a while then wash off. I have heard that olive oil is good, and it's natural and gentle on the skin. Good luck!

I find that if you do not RUB when you take it off, it will not stain as badly.

I tell parents to take the baby shampoo, and just make a ucky paste with the shampoo and the paint. Let it set for 20 seconds, then just wash it off with just hands and water.

Some stain might remain, but it should disappear within about 12 hours an exfoliation.

I've used TAG green on my son (it's his favorite too) and we just wash it off first, then do moisturizer/lotion, let that sit for 15-20 minutes and wipe that off with a baby wipe. It does come off. If it doesn't work the first time, I do the moisturizer thing again.

I also have CLEANSING CREAM (Grimas) for cleaning afterwards.
Works great!

I forgot that sometimes (for around the eyes) I use an eye makeup remover that works really well. I'll have to get the brand name from my Sister-in-law.

It's Mary Kay oil free eye make-up remover. It doesn't hurt the eyes and works pretty well to get off face make up.

Silver.
Put silver underneath.
Works everytime, a very non-expensive solution to any paint staining.

Most greens stain, it's just part of the beast.... Putting a base of silver or gold really does help. I stain easily.

I must have stubborn skin because I tried the silver under the green and still stained pretty bad. Maybe I need a thicker layer of the silver?

Thanks heaps everyone, I ended up using make up remover and while it didn't take it all off he didn't look alienish for the lunch thing (seemed to stick on his nose and eyebrow area), afterwards he was painted by another painter at an event today and I stood by and hoped and prayed that he didn't ask for green, he ended up with blue, came off like a dream, never again will I complain about washing paint off. Make up remover and silver paint are my new BFs. Thanks again everyone!

If it ever gets really stuck on him again try olive oil, or baby oil... it works a treat.

My last ditch "this has *got* to come off somehow" is shaving foam.... even on talent that had already had their skin rubbed raw with baby oil and makeup remover and their skin had absorbed the pigment. Just let a generous amount sit on the skin for 20 seconds, and wipe it off - never around the eyes.

My daughter's preschool teacher told me that trick for getting ink off of tables. If the kids got marker all over the tables, she just let them play in shaving cream and it came right up!

Wow this is awesome guys, my little green monster is now back to normal but I love that all this stuff is from around the house, didn't even think of baby oil (which I seem to have at least 10 bottles in the house) and never would have even thought to try shaving foam. I love this forum, I'm always learning something new!! I think that green might be allowed to come back out to play after all.

Green the "Taboo" face paint color. Although I for whatever reason don't stain from using darker pigments......

It seems like the general consensus is that all greens regardless of brand are the enemy...lol Seems like with all of todays technology that this is still an issue. I mean seriously we can predict how fast global warming is happening and build aircrafts to take people into space, can declare after centuries that pluto is after all this time not a planet........

but we can't find a way to keep green paint from staining the skin?????

Thank goodness I read your posts before my St. Pattys Day gig at a local restaurant! I will lay a layer of silver down prior to the green going on to help prevent staining. This is a good discovery, thanks, guys.

When I was just starting and painting my son every chance that I got, he was always green, it would stick to his eyebrows, around his nose, just everywhere. His teachers thought it was rather funny but he wont let me paint him any more (unless I pay him).

I find that if you let the wash rag with warm water stay on the face a few minutes. it re activates the paint and it comes off better...but put ivory soap on the rag...watch out for the eye area..I also to found that baby oil takes it right off..I use baby oil to take of my clown makeup..works wonders..

I always use these to take make-up off both regular everyday make-up and face paint. I don't know if I just don't stain like other people or if the product is just that good, but I never have had a problem with staining since I switched to these wipes. They don't even irritate the skin like classic baby wipes (and boy do those babies start to burn after a couple uses!). they're pretty cheap too, you can get them for like $5 for two packs at Walmart.
