This vs. That - Comparing Brands side by side (Picture Heavy)

my first professional kit is Wolfe paints. It was hard to chose. I wish i had been apart of this website beforehand. I would have asked your advice. I am pretty happy with it. Still learning the sponge technique and still sloppy with the glitter and seeking out the right brushes....

I've been doing face painting for years, but have finally become "professional" I used Snazaroo (as it is available in craft stores), and it's fine for background color, but the black and white are terrible for crisp lines, and lining over color. I recently bought a HUGE palate of mainly DFX colors, but have a few TAG and a few Jest paints - has anyone ever used those? They had some really unique colors, but they're pretty sheer. I'm still experimenting with them, and will post some pictures soon (once I figure out HOW).

I have learned lots to, but I needed to know if all these new types- TAG, Paradise, DFX and such, do they wash off as easily as Snazaroo? Its just so easy to remove, a baby wipe does it. Or maybe Im not painting well enough to make it last? lol

plus another silly question- how does one USE all of these fantastic colors?! I seem to get by with two Snazaroo 'party palates'. Maybe Im just missing the colors. ?

Its a priority on my part to have things non allergenic and easy to remove. I noticed some posts talk of them having a perfum smell- Im not wild about that.
Need some photos of Snazaroo paints? I dont own any other type. yet.

These are Snazroo sparkles. Pretty see through when compared to some others that I have seen on this posting. Its what I use for now though. I used a spongebrush and swiped twice on the skin after I loaded it. I did a a few more swipes over the silver- I rarely use it because its difficult to see..
The glitter is silver Mehron Glitter Wear. The first is straight from tube, the second and third are different brush strokes of it. It was dry before I could take the picture.

Most of us started out with a 'party pallete' or some type of basic kit. What happens? Well...here's what happened to me. For a few years I used 2 small snaz palletes and 'details' from Paradise. But then...
1) I was at a summer carnival last year and 9 kids asked for a rainbow on their face. (It was the first time I had more than one rainbow in a festival). I had a line full of kids and I was painting soo slowly with individual colors. So I went online to Sillyfarm and saw arty cakes for the first time. Went 'this is brilliant!' and purchased a small arty cake rainbow. It arrived and I made my current avatar.
2) Watched some youtube videos and thought...hmm...glitter... I like glitter...went back to sillyfarm and order their 3 for $13 in random colors. The glitter arrived and I went..."OMG this adds SOOOO much to the design!" (At this point hubby had to refrain me from purchasing more glitter ).
3) But I was relentless! I was running out of SNAZ black and I was exasperated with Snaz white. All these youtube videos had crisp white lines and mine looked like something that my toddler was doing. I was also out of snaz green, pink, and brown. Told hubby that before an upcoming party something MUST be done, otherwise there would be many ticked children when I told them that I had no pink.
4) Researched as many brands as I could. Youtube. Blogs. Etc. Came onto face paint forum and read the forum. Decided on diamond fx. Didn't realize that the forum had a store (sorry Metina!) and realized sillyfarm didn't have DFX. Went online to WOWFACTOR and purchased a laptop filled with DFX metallics. Also purchased some white, red, black, (basic colors).
5) Paint arrived. Began painting cousins, siblings, anyone who'd hold still. LOVED the diamond fx. Discovered that my old snaz designs were 2,000 times nicer in metallic diamond fx with extra glitter (for good measure).
6) Saw how on the forum people did one stroke/used splits. Since 8th grade I've been painting with one stroke (and a number of other technicues). Tried to make splits using old/unused Snaz.
7) Got exasperated.
Purchased arty cakes.
9) Discovered that Paradise paint smell is a little too much for me. Also didn't love the square container for anything other than loading a simple one swipe rainbow.
10) Purchased tag splits from Metina.
11) Fell in love with splits.

There's more to this story, because I now have tons of large splits, glitters, and I finally figured out how to make dots without details.

whoa!!! I LOVE IT! thanks for sharing!! this may be me, only Im switching it up and fast forwarding to just placing an order now. I totally thought it was my lines that was screwy, not the paint. It coudlnt have been the paint! -gasp- wrong again! lol
this orderform gets getting bigger n bigger. i loved how you said you painted anything that would hold still, that is what Im thinking when I get these pretty splitz in. I recently did a princess party event and I painted for 4 hrs nonstop. SOOOO many flipping rainbows (each color) and fairies. I totally couldve used the rainbow one. Just trying to decide which one I want now.
so thanks again! i really enjoyed that drama. now since I have a bedtime story to dream about Im going to bed. type to everyone tommorrow!

they arent very sparkly, those two have the most 'sparkle' to them. The others are just seemingly birght colors. I can do them tommorrow if you wanna see them all. You cant pickup on the sparkles though, just to warn you.

They are very light are'nt they...I've heard that sparkle pink is nice..I may only buy one to see for myself..I'm a bit worried if they run off your face in Summer...mmm I've been stocking up on Paradise for the bases but thought Snaz might be a cheaper option..thanks for sharing Tara..

If the person sweats and then rubs or hits it, it will smudge. Crying tears also makes the colors run. It dosent 'melt' on its on. Water or a baby wipe takes it off completely. Ill swatch the pink and turquise tonight, they are bright and I use them alot.

If a person sweats and rubs any facepaint it will come off.. and tears also always do it too..So thats not a Snaz defect..Does it go on brighter with a sponge...becase thats all I would use with them...thanks heaps tara...so nice to get to have a look before you buy.. Fantastic.

That was the darkest I could get it! two 'swipes' and that was with one of my sponges! lol Its even lighter with a brush. Ill get the other Snaz sparkles up tonight, and some normal colors (that I mostly use) because they show up better.
I know, I didnt say it was a defect, I actually like that its easy to remove. That is my number one question.
I would like some brighter colors but ones that dont have a strong smell, its why Im reading everything I can before I get some new colors. I love snaz, its my first but I need to expand to get brighter colors. Ill take a pic of my brushes/sponges that Im using to.

Here are the other sparkle SNAZ colors- with two swipes of the sponge brush. The thin lines are with a brush and its the NORMAL matte snaz colors.
Here are the brushes and sponge brush I use.

snaz blyue, sparkle blue, snaz red, sparkle pink, snaz green, sparkle green, snaz yellow, sparkle yellow

the sparkles arent very sparkly. the blue and purple I did yesterday were the sparkliest ones in the bunch. but they work great for highlights i think.

I love the color of sparkle red, but really find little use for it, except it makes a pretty color on the lips. I can do a swipe of that if you would like.

Left to right: Snazaroo sparkle red, pink, red. It isn't close to true red, and more shimmery than sparkly, however it's pretty.

Not to drudge up the tulip thing again, but the first is tulip silver then snaz silver. The tulip silver is awesome, very smooth and soft, excellent coverage. However, I have not put these to the sweat test yet, so I have no idea how it's gonna work in the heat

That tulip silver looks awesome! I'm still searching for the best silver and gold..so far I have jestpaint silver and adding tulip to the list..
Does anyone has comparison of different golds and silvers??

I have most snazaroo sparkle but my favorites are the pink, orange and yellow, I can find the big cakes for less than 6 bucks in a store close to where a live.

I have tag old gold and it is DELICIOUS!!!! Don't have swatch but I painted this with old gold, copper and bronze green all from tag. All of them are AMAZING!!!!!


I bought dfx gold and was very disappointed, it was more like metallic/pearl yellow, to tell you the truth, I have a hard time trying to figure out which one was gold and which one was yellow.

Thanks Maggie!!! I heard good things about TAG Gold but never seen the actual color in the skin..

So now I know...Stay away from DFX Gold..

I was looking at skin tones from TAG. What is the difference between bisque and beige??

Also, a tip to snazroo paint. I find it glides easier and becomes darker if you drop 1-2 drops of water from an eye dropper into the paint before you start painting. It soaks in and makes it paint better. Take off the lids, drop the water, finsih setting up then start painting. make sense? I keep'em wet. It works better for me than starting with a dry paint circle each time.

spray bottle works too. I spray all my paints before going in the brush/sponge
