Brush holder

Hi...just wondered if anyone could help me ... I'd like a brush holder for all my brushes to stand up in when I'm set up for a gig...the specific brush wallets/easels etc seem v expensive and I wondered what everyone else does. Trying to keep costs down but also want to look professional. Your help is much appreciated.

Water bottle ice cube tray from walmart.

I actually use the holes from my wash bin. I'll have to find a photo when I get home. It's bulky but it works for me.

I use the "ice tube tray" as well, but my Walmart didn't have them. I had to go to a Kitchen store in the outlet mall.

On second thought, Gina you are right. I thought I could get one at Walmart, didn't find it and the went to General Dollar and bought a Popsicle maker. It looks the same, I just had to take the top with the sticks off and threw it away.

I got mine at Walmart but it was really hard to find. I do like the way those professional folding things look.

Walmart carries them in the spring . They are seasonal.

i got my ice cube tray at walmart..it was in a strange place..you could ask them at the store...

I actually use a paint brush bowl. I don't know what you call it. You can get them in the oil painting section at craft stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Not too expensive. they have little ridges in the bottom good for getting the paint off the brushes when you swish it down in the water. and the bowl has different size holes around the edges to hold the brushes. my bowl also actually has two different sides, so I can use one side for lighter colors and the other to wash out black and dark colors-so my water lasts longer. Maybe something to look for!

Thanks everyone. Thats really useful. I have been looking all over on the internet for the water bottle ice cube tray thing but they all seem to be flat and long as opposed to tall (if that makes sense). I live in the UK and we dont have Walmart here. I do like the idea of the brush holder that Alicia mentioned...will go to my local hobby craft art shop and see what I can find. Will let you know how I get on.

I had the same problem.... couldn't find the ice tube trays anywhere... so I made my own. It's still in use 1.5 years later

I use the water bottle ice tray and it is amazing i organize all the brushes and its perfect for it, highly reccomended i got mine at walmart for 7$

I use a folding stand alone brush easel from Mehron. Keeps all my brushes secure and easily visible and it looks really great...I love it. Holds alot of brushes too.

JBax, I remember seeing that post. Your PVC brush stand is awesome! It is actually on my "dream list." And it makes such great sense to leave the bottom open. Thanks for that one

I used to use the walmart organizer, but 1) it took up too much room and 2) I am really bad about putting my brushes where they belong. So I went to one of those clear, 3-sectioned pencil holder cups from Office Max. I filled it with light weight, clear florist/decorator drops so my brushes are held upright. For some reason, this has worked for me. I keep my black and white brushes in one section, and then disperse the rest in the other sections. Kids always think I have magic crystals or something in my cup because of the way the beads sparkle. To pack up I either leave my brushes in (pushed far back and placing a towel over the top to prevent spillage in-transit) or I put my brushes in a canvas brush roll, slap a small washcloth inside the container and pack in in my bag! Home you find something that works for you. I may still have my ice cube tray if you're interested, however, I paint

I love JBax's idea...its very cleaver and ingenious...I may go down that route. I know it may sound sad but I would like all my kit to be black in color as I think this looks clean when set out. And much easier to wash and less likely to stain. Will go to my local shop this weekend and hopefully find some plastic pipe that I can use to replicate your idea. Thanks again everyone. I'm loving this idea! Definitely gonna go to my local DYI place and find some tubing. Thanks so much ... problem solved I think. I really like it cos I can make it exactly how I need it to be. Genius!

I use a popsicle tray, you can see it in this picture below. But I am thinking of making something like JBax did, only with a larger diameter PVC (possibly black, that is a good idea, Angelface), and all in a straight row that will fit behind my paint tubs. I have sometimes knocked over my brushes when reaching for a paint in the left tub.

I've tried twice now to reply to everyone...but for some reason I'm not managing it...so apologies if anyone received a pm from me...my mistake. I loved JBax idea...its genius...gonna go to my local DIY shop and find some piping. I particularly like the fact that I can make it to suite my needs, and I'm guessing that later down the line when I have even more brushes I can simply add extra pipe bits.

I was going to hunt down one of those ice cube tray thingys, then my wonderful hubby turned the mitten drier over and said "what about this?" Works great. the holes are large, andthere are slits along the sides, so they dry out easy.
