Much better. cheers

Just a couple of things (and these are my personal preferences...)

The muzzle could be less human - make the split in the lip a line and then don't follow the shape of the person's mouth. You can then lengthen the muzzle of the tiger.

Also, cat noses are broader than ours so I like to keep the nose colour on the bottom of the nose and sometimes go a bit past the nostrils on the sides.

I don't do under the eyes often - I prefer not to do them on younger children at all and will often just make the cat shape off the outer edges instead on on the lids. On older kids and adults I will if it works for them.

There are as many ways to paint tigers/cats in general as there are face painters!

Psalm Thank you I wanted to try the Mardi gras thing today.
Shannon I love the eyes and nose on your bottom center pic. I have the most trouble with the noses.

My first tiger - Page 2 Cat10

Here is my quick tiger. (more of a tiger/cheetah combo) Very Happy Other options then orange and yellow. I always try to keep it simple.
Your second attempt is much better.

I am by no means an expert. I'm a newbie too but I will offer some suggestions:

Personally, I prefer the dots on this design, and eye liner is hard to do on kids. Great line work and blending! Good job overall!

I’ve noticed that the dots on the muzzle of cats really are in lines just like you did (which is what I paint) but when I paint the actual whiskers I just flick out randomly (but fairly evenly.) I think whiskers should be as thin as possible.

I would do the nose differently. I was going to try to describe it, but I’ll just give you a couple of video links:

I would also suggest the lines around the muzzle to be more thin to thick than consistent in thickness, and cats don’t have cupid’s bows, so I wouldn’t paint that (the “M” shape at the top of the top lip.)

I wouldn't add wiskers at all. I have that Mark Reid book and not a single cat has wiskers(except the extension on one). They just make it look a bit messy IMHO.

This book is excellent if you can get your hands on it!

I'm late getting on this one, too.. bumping this thread because I LOVED looking through all the photos.

Tigers were my pet peeve when I first started so I just didn't paint them until recently, and now they are my absolute favorite designs to paint. Not sure what changed in me, but as you can see there is a HUGE difference from then to now =). I think it comes with experience and figuring out which brushes work best for you and how to do the line work. Ooh, and paints! Amazing the difference a brand of face paint makes =).

Most of my designs are copies or inspired by others:

My first tiger! and my second.. and they were done on my son and my nephew, so these designs never met a stranger's face.... lol

The multi-colored one of my daughter I got a little heavy handed around the eyes at my first try. That one was a Mark Reid tiger and is by far my favorite. I need to get some updated pics. When I paint on other kids, I also usually skip outlining the bottom of the eye. Depending on how well they sit and if they have sensitive eyes, I may just put a teardrop on the outside corner of the eye.

This is my wiggly little two year old who wouldn't let me finish... but she's too adorable not to share =) (although I am a little biased.. lol). It looks like my first tigers.. it's amazing how much better your work is on the non-moving canvas! This is the reason I won't paint kids less than 3 years old!!
