1st south central PA (& surrounding) FPing JAM - this Sunday @ Springwood Golf Course (Bogey Macaws)
It is official! This Sunday Nov 7th at 4pm at Bogey McCaws American Grille at Springwood Golf Course. ALL are invited, regardless of level.
Directions:
Please note there is also a Bogey Macaws at Heritage Hills Gold Course (which owns Springwood, so it get confusing), but we are at the Springwood one. It is pretty easy to find, and a cute place. Here is a Google Map for you: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&q=bogey+macaws+map&fb=1&gl=us&hq=bogey+macaws&hnear=Grantley,+PA&view=map&cid=9518894744902496998&iwloc=A&ved=0CIUBEKUG&sa=X&ei=0CPQTJy5HKKszATn6KyZBQ
Here is their website: www.bogeymacaws.com or www.golfspringwood.com
Restaurant Details:
The restaurant is a great place for kids - it has a "play place" with (not free) ball pit/climbing tunnels, and "token" games like Chuck E Cheese, but is also more adult friendly than CEC. The play area is in a different room from the restaurant. The General Manager seems like a wonderful person, and is giving us one of the two "cabana rooms". These rooms are when you first enter into the restaurant - they are semi-enclosed and have 4 large round party tables in each one. The supervisor John will keep us supplied with free (non-alcoholic) drinks (we can order food on our own if we like). The reasons I liked this place are that in the summer they have a patio and bands (which lends the same "festive" atmosphere we like to promote), they newly installed their play area (thus are looking to attract a younger crowd and likely to appreciate us), and their per check average is larger, which means the customers are likely more affluent (great marketing for us). The drawbacks are: location (tucked away in the golf course within a development), higher prices (smaller customer traffic). We can always change locations if we wish to!
Jam Details:
We will have a casual get-to-know-each-other "meeting" from 4pm to 5pm. We may not have time to actually paint at this meeting first meeting (?) - let's see From 5pm to 6pm we will paint the customers (or each other, if there are not enough customers). I think for this first jam we will keep it simple and only paint our favorite designs, to share with each other. Pick a few of your favorite designs, regardless of what style (simple, detailed, quick, slow, etc.) and be prepared to share with us what you love about it (ie: quick but looks involved, kids love it, uses favorite color, makes a huge impact, I am just good at it... *whatever* your reason). At most of our jams, our customers will not have a choice of face, we will paint them with whatever our theme is (in this case, our favorite faces!). The idea is that we *learn* from each other, and have some cute practice faces
Again, please do not worry if you think you are a different level from other painters, for three reasons: 1) we were all at your stage at one time (!), 2) you will allow us to be supportive, friendly, and nurturing (some of our goals with our new jam!), and 3) we can learn by *teaching* too - so although you may think you have nothing to teach others, you in fact do! (Note: if you are a true beginner, please make sure that you have at least read many of the posts on www.facepaintforum.com or have read and practiced some face painting books - we will be SO delighted to help beginners advance, but will not have the ability train someone from scratch).
Items to Bring:
*CAMERA (please take a photo of all work you do, for reference, liability reasons, and for possible use as marketing for you!)
*SMALL KIT (a great idea: bring your "birthday party" kit, if you are new, just guess what it should be, and you will learn as you go!) - my small kit is actually my FatMax, not so small
*OUTFIT: if able, please wear what you would when you paint at a birthday party - we can get ideas from each other. (Again, if you are new, just guess! And it doesn't matter if you don't have a painting "outfit", many of us don't, just wear the type of clothes you *would* wear to a birthday gig).
*MARKETING ITEMS - if you don't have business cards, simply write your info on some papers. We will lay out our cards for the patrons to take, and we will practice handing each of our "customers" our card after we paint them.
*NOTEBOOK - to write notes, reminders, contact information, draw sketches, etc.
(note to myself: I will bring a tip jar for us to share in, name tags, and some photo release forms)
Please don't be scared about attending this jam - we will all figure this out as we go! That said, I am scared, myself, LOL. But I trust we will have fun, and do some learning, and some networking, and some marketing. And mostly, we will all know that we are in this *together*, in a fun, supportive way. Competition's ugly head will try to sneak in here and there, but we will all pledge to do our darnest to keep it out as much as possible, and remain friendly and supportive!!!
One small request: please can you post in this thread if you are coming, and that you saw this trhead. If you don't I will try to reach you via email with this info
Warmest regards, see you on Sunday!
Barbie
ps: my cell phone is 887 - 4248 if you need to get ahold of me on that date!
pps: any suggestions? would love to hear them
