Sugar Skull Mask
I had so much fun doing my sugar skull butterfly for this month's contest entry that I decided to go to my bunco Halloween party with a sugar skull mask! Even though I forgot to do the nostrils (oops!!), the mask was a hit! The best part about being a face painter? You don't have to spend money on a costume! I just wore black, painted my face, and was good to go!
Re: Sugar Skull Mask
That is stunning.. but then of course I'm sure you could make anything look great!
I wish we had Halloween parties over here, would be so much fun to have a real excuse to paint my face!

It looks very cool Lisa!
What would you have done with the nostrils?LisaJoyYoung wrote: Even though I forgot to do the nostrils (oops!!), the mask was a hit!

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Thanks, everyone! I had fun doing it, even though it took FOREVER!
Lonnie, a lot of times sugar skulls have a spade shape for a nose with the point of the spade split in two, so I probably would have done something like that. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about:

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Yeah, I'm all about masks, for kids and myself. It's nice not having to worry about paint around the mouth smearing. I knew I'd be doing some eating and A LOT of drinking so the mask was the way to go!
Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Lisa, this is gorgeous! Love the necklace, too!
Of course, now I'm going to request a YT tutorial

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Spectacular look! I like the details around the mouth area and the necklace as well.
Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Lisa that is just incredibly awesome. Love the matching necklace to go, I'm still yet to attempt a necklace on myself. You've sparked my enthusiasim to have a go. Thanks for sharing. Your a gem.
Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Lisa that is beautiful, if only I can get to the point of painting like you guys do, you ALL inspire me!

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Beautiful Sugar Skull Lisa!
I was thinking of doing a 1/2 scary 1/2 pretty face for my Haunted House tonight, but I might just do this! Thank you for sharing!
I don't like painting around the mouth either.

Starblends Sugar Skull
Hi all,
I was really inspired by Lisa's design. I have never tried to do a sugar skull "day of the dead" type of design before. So I decided to do one and I then thought to really challenge myself I would do it just using starblends powders. So here is my 1st starblends sugar skull. Other than the outline and tear drops done with DFX black everything else is starblends

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
That's amazing, Changing! I LOVE it! I can't believe you did the whole thing with Starblends! Also, I really like how you made the background pink fading into white. Great job!!!
Re: Sugar Skull Mask
I love that you guys are always so encouraging. Thank you for the kind words. I really want to increase the number of designs I am able to do with starblends as well as getting better at achieving really good coverage. I used them dry using smoothie blenders. I will have to remember next time not to put the white where I am going to use the black. I know I could have achieved a more intense look with the black if I hadn't used the white underneathe it first.

OMG Changing that's awesome
I don't own any starblends - yet - this design you did makes me want some now...

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Lisa is the reason I own a few starblends! I have red, black, and white.
I use them for spiderman/venom, hello kitty, and pirates The black is a must for around the eye area on kids. It wipes off beautifully!

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
hmm....i think you just gave me inspiration for my halloween costume!!
i wanted to go as lily munster and have my mom airbrush my face, neck & arms light green, then do her dramatic blue eyeshadow & green blush. but i don't have time to make her dress, & the packaged costume looks too cheap. so i decided to go as lily next year...if i can get started early enough making the dress.
i have an outfit i was going to throw together & go as a vampire (3rd year in a row. lol) but if i use the same outfit, throw a rose in my hair & add a shawl i have, i think this would be great! at least it is in my head! gotta practice! thanks for the inspiration!

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
That's awesome!! I didn't even miss the nose at all and probably wouldn't have even noticed it til you pointed out. Besides its your design maybe yours doesn't need the nose, it looks great without it to me.

That sounds great! I think the rose in the hair would make the outfit!

Yes! Black starblends are so much easier to remove from around the eyes than black paint! They're also great for sweaty kids in hot weather.
