Book: The Birthday Party Business
I have been reading this book and thought I would share my thoughts on it with you.
This is obviously not just about face painting, but many aspects of being a party entertainer. That being said, while there are sections that I don't use at the moment (magic, catering, puppetry), it doesn't mean there aren't valid ideas in there to add to what I do or that I may not decide to use them in the future. This book offers a lot of ideas for working with different age groups as the same things don't work with all ages. Some ideas were new to me, some were just very validating that what I am already doing is good stuff.
On the down side, it is an old book and as such, some of the information is out of date. The section on marketing makes no mention of the internet or widespread use of cell phones and insists that the yellow pages are absolutely necessary (when most people don't even look at the darn things anymore... you can actually contact yellow pages and have them NOT deliver it to you to save paper). Still, there are some good ideas and advice if you can look past some of the out of date stuff.
I think this is definitely a good read for anyone who would consider themselves a children's entertainer and not just a face painter (though there is a whole chapter on face painting by Marcela Murad).

Re: Book: The Birthday Party Business
Thank you!! I found this by searching B-days as I am trying to get some ideas on how to entertain during my painting.
