First Birthday Party Ever!! Empty First Birthday Party Ever!!

Post by HappyVickery Sun Jun 05, 2011 3:17 pm

So I was at the park the other day practicing on kids, and this lady wanted me at her daughter's birthday! I had a few business cards printed up on Vista Print so I guess I looked like I knew what I as doing Smile Yaye Me!

The party was today, and when I got their I saw they were having a pool party. They even rented a huge water slide bouncy house thing. I still don't understand why they would want a face painter there with everybody swimming. Either way, I painted their face, and they would go down the slide or jump in the pool and want something else. Total there were only 12 kids, but I painted some of them 3 times Smile

I was there for an hour and a half (including set up and pack up), and I still go paid even though the kids faces were running or washed off. Luckily there were 2 teenagers that didn't swim so at least the other people at the party could see something other than a mess of a tiger!

Do people often hire face painters at a swim party??

I know right! Didn't get any pictures though. I think one of the birthday girl opening her presents would have been hilarious Very Happy

I did a Birthday party yesterday (also for practice), where kids rubbed it off after running around minutes after I painted. Neither the kids nor the parents minded, as the kids seemed to enjoy the process itself. They didn't really care what happened to the face afterward. Except one girl, who came back and asked me to fixed the arm painting.

So, hey, if everyone had fun, and you got good practice - that's what counts. Smile

have you maybe thought about adding glitter tattoo's to your b,day packages. they are great for pool party's as they don't wash off and are super easy to do!
i do face painting for a annual fund raiser for my children's school and they do a water slip and slide, the 1st year i painted there were some awfully drippy face's lol. now i tell the kids to go do the water stuff 1st and see me after Smile

It really doesn't matter to me if it is a pool party. I am there for an alotted time. Who cares if their faces get messed up. If I know ahead of time that it's a pool party I am a little more diligent about grabbing pics before they get out of the chair (for me , but moreso for the parents and guests to see). Other than that I could care less.

I'm still a bit emotionally attached to my creations. I'm sure after a while I wouldn't mind watching my work dribbling down their face seconds after I finished...

@Changing - I LOVE your new avatar! Beautiful. I love those exotic feline looks, just don't know what to call them.

Hi Erica, and Thank you for the kind compliment.

That was the look I wore to the Gala at FABAIC this year. I was going for the look of an Egyptian Mal Cat (which is why I did the jewel headpiece) but somehow deciding to go more cheetah-ish because it matched my cheetah shoes...lololol In the end it's always about the shoes.

lol @ Erica, I used to be the same way in the beginning....didn't want the kid to eat or drink, or run around and risk messing up my beautiful work.

hahaha I am soooo over that now...asking a kid not to eat drink or run or jump in a pool when it's hot as hades out is like asking them not to breathe.

Hey, there will always be another face to paint

Ha, I just did an event on Sunday that was the polar opposite!! I had two kids (a boy and a girl) who came back to get their lip colour touched up. They wanted to look perfect for when they got home so their mom could take their picture.

I do parties at pool parties all the time. I will sometimes get hired to do glitter tattoos(I really hate doing them... just not fun w/ all those stencils Razz ). Sometimes the parents will end the swimming, I'll face paint & then they do cake & presents. This is my usual recommendation. I'd like to get some of that Temptu paint for water events.
