Hello from SouthWestern Ontario, Canada
Hi, my name is Isabelle. I know, I know, I signed up as "Hazel"... that has been my online name for various other sites so I went with it automatically. Can we change user names here?
Anyway, here's my background. My daughter and I first started facepainting in late 2003... we volunteered at a Girl Guide event. We both loved it right away! She was only 14 at the time but had a real flair for it. By summer 2004 we were doing it for pay, and I didn't want to step on her toes so I found myself moving away from facepainting and into balloon twisting. We added temporary tattoos as well, the 'For Now' kind. We have a few major events we do every year, and she does parties and has some regular gigs.
I often help out at busy events with simple cheek art, usually a specific design (like at the pumpkin fest we do every year, I do a jack-o-lantern only). I'd been toying with the idea of suggesting to her that I could pick it up again, to help out - she gets soooo swamped - when to my surprise she suggested it to me!! So here I am, picking up the brushes and getting back into it.
So I'm kind of a newbie and kind of not. I'm really excited to be doing it again, I loved it so much but I wanted to let it be "her thing" if you know what I mean, and I let her develop her talent herself. Now she is much older, and she only views this as occasional income... whereas I would love to grow it into more than that.
Another thing, a few years ago, I sunk a lot of money into all the supplies for airbrush tattoos but found that I didn't really enjoy it at all, I just couldn't get the hang of it. The funny thing is, my husband was really good with it but he didn't want to show too much interest, because it was "my thing". Interesting how all this comes out when you get talking, eh? So now we are both fired up about doing this stuff, because we finally feel free to do it without hurting anyone's feelings or taking over or anything.
So here I am, and I am loving this forum. You folks are the nicest ever! Thank you everyone for sharing your knowledge and just being so supportive. I'm excited to be here and can't wait to get really going again!

P.S. I tend to ramble on a lot, sorry!!

Hi Isabelle welcome to the forum - we have a bit in common, my husband does the airbrush tattoos while I paint - and I tend to ramble on a bit too... oh ok a lot!
Re: Hello from SouthWestern Ontario, Canada
Isabelle, welcome to the forum. Yes, we try not to step on toes in our family too... my 17 yr old daughter does henna & can face paint, but I hold back on the henna for her sake. My 15 yr old daughter balloon twists & now I hold back on that & let it be her thing. If we do glitter tattoos, it's whoever gets stuck w/ them(none of us are very fond of them, but they do make $... so we do them
I just love that we can work & play together!

Hi Isabelle!
Welcome "back" to the art of face painting!!!! You will enjoy it probably even more as there are more resources and information and you are now "free" to just go nuts with your passion!!!
Can't wait to see your work and where you take it! Good luck with the business development and art of it! Check out the swap if you have a few things you want to try or unload as you regrow it all!
Take care! Happy painting!
