Hi from Ontario,Canada
I am from Hamilton,Ontario.Face painting is new experience for me. A few months ago my nieces were at a birthday party and when I sew how they were face painted (poorly) I decided to try it myself.....and I was hooked. I hope to learn a lot here. I have question: witch colors are best for hot summer days?
Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks a lot!!!

Re: Hi from Ontario,Canada
Welcome to the Forum, KAPETAN.
Last year, I painted at the Canadian National Exhibition for the whole 18 days. StarBlend powders were a lifesaver for a couple of reasons:
Boys do not react as if I poured acid on their eyes, like some do when I use paint.
When you sweat with the StarBlends on, the colors intensify, instead of fading away.
All our paints turned to the consistency of sour cream in the weather. We were not in direct sun. We were in a tent. I had a cooler and several times a day, we would all swap out our Wolfe White with the chilled versions. We placed our paint palettes on a cushion of freezer coolers (the kind that are like a puffed-square quilt. Toward the end of the Exhibition, we learned to keep our paints in the coolers with the lids open, to minimize the amount of condensation. We also put Freezies in our cooler, because, who doesn't like Freezies on a hot day?
We learned to add very little water to our paints, and we left them open, out at night to try to dehydrate the paint, to little, or small effect.
We used Wolfe White, until it ran out, and then Diamond F/X and TAG. Wolfe Black and Diamond F/X Black. The rest of our paints were, in no particular order: Wolfe, MAC, TAG, Kryolan Aquacolor, FAB, Snazaroo, & Ben Nye.
The Face Paint Forum (in the rainbow colored rectangle in the header of this column sells face painting supplies for competitive pricing and the shipping is FAST! I have it shipped to my relatives in Detroit and pick it up when i visit.
The problem with the Canadian suppliers has nothing to do with them, but with Canada Post. The cost is outrageous, which would be palatable, if my packages did not arrive looking like a bear chewed on them, and then played hockey with the package. I have ordered from St. Thomas, Ontario, and the shipping took 6 weeks to arrive.... St. Thomas is a two hour drive away from me.
I am mindful in the hot weather to keep my paint level, and not allow it to tip, just in case it melts. I always bring my Rainbow Base Blenders and One-Strokes into the airconditioning with me when travelling in the warm weather.
There is another face painter from Hamilton, kingsmeadmama, who you should meet. She is a wonderful face painter, and the two of you could split the shipping on orders of paint. If one of you orders one color, and the other a second color, and you cut them in half and and split them, you will have two colors for the price of one. I learn so much from other painters.
Happy Painting!

Re: Hi from Ontario,Canada
Dear KAPETAN:
The best thing about meeting with other face painters is that you can poke around in their face painting kit and actually try out some of the colors. HokeyPokey moved last August from Yonge & Eglinton to Vaughn.
You can send a PM (private message) to kingsmeadmama by clicking on her member name in the member list, and pushing on the PM with the envelope under her information. This way, you are not revealing private information like your address on a public forum.
I was at Hiscott's yesterday at Yonge & College to pick up some supplies, and the cupboards were very bare. They are readying for a big renovation and are not carrying all their full stock. I lost my list of supplies on the subway yesterday. I wonder what the person who found my list of "Nipple covers, feathers, etc., thinks I do for a living.
xoxo

I have never entered a competition before.

Hi, All!!!
I bought my first set of face paints TAG at hokeypokey in Vaughan and it is a big difference from snazaroo I've used so far as beginner kit. These people were very helpful and even showed me how to use split cakes.I hope, I will be able to go to haunting Convention here in Hamilton, and see your work fesspenter. I was unable to made my gallery it say that is reached storage limit.

Lisa...
I'm a face painter from Newmarket, Ontario. I have had good experiences with both Hokey Pokey and Dotsy's in St. Thomas. I had one shipment from Dotsy's take a long time, but since then it's improved greatly. The Wolfe palate is also a good starter kit.
