Yet another Central Floridian
Howdy all,
I have been lurking here for quite a while and decided it was time to join.
I used to paint in high school at festivals and such - you know, the cheesy tempera-paint cheek art, and it wasn't until moving to FL and going to work at a theme park that I first saw REAL face painting - WOW. Being an artist of many venues, I was impressed and challenged, and proceeded to chat up the employees at the FP booths on their supplies, methods, etc.
I found some discounted Snaz at an art supply store that has since closed down just before a church festival where I had volunteered to paint, and picked it up. That was probably six years ago.
Ever since, I've played with FP off and on as a hobby - a birthday party here, church event there - but have longed to go a little more professional, if for nothing else than cover the cost of the paint. Word of mouth wasn't getting me anywhere, so for the last few months I've been doing a "tips only" gig at a local pizzeria's family night. I know tips only isn't ideal, but it has garnered me the needed practice and experience I need to be able to take FP to the next level, and I've made some contacts through it that should be helpful.
Here I am living almost IN Orlando, and I miss the FBAIC convention EVERY YEAR due to scheduling conflicts. Told my husband this is the LAST year I am missing it - we can celebrate our anniversary some OTHER weekend from now on!
Anyway - so glad to be here, see what I can learn from all of you, and be part of the community!

Re: Yet another Central Floridian
Welcome from another Floridian... I can call myself that because I've lived here for 13 years. This will be my 1st FABAIC & I've been face painting 5 years.
Re: Yet another Central Floridian
Welcome. Why don't you bring your husband to FABAIC? So you can celebrate and be at the convention at the same time =)

Ha! That is a great idea; he is an artist too and I think he would enjoy it. I have been trying to get him interested in FP anyway so that if I ever get a gig where I need more people I wouldn't have to "hire" anyone else!
This year we have a family reunion in another state going on, though.

Hi Sunrise!!!
There are quite a few from the forum going. So make sure you put your real name/face out there so we can find you!!! There are a few responses on the thread about upcoming events if you want to know who/how many. Hold on to your wallet and make a list of what you have so you don't get any duplicates in the "vendor room"!
Welcome to the forum - I love it when people are so intrigued they come out of lurking!!! Looking forward to getting to know you better.
