finally, a decent camera and some body paint
So, I kinda gave up FABIC this year for a Dslr camera...I got a Canon T1i and it was about $800 plus a memory card and case (eventually more lenses and a good flash, the popup flash is a bit harsh). I'm sick of doing work that takes so long or looks so beautiful in real life and having my point and shoot camera ruin it or never get close to the real quality. My first time using it was for a body painting for a casino. This was the 3rd time they've had me for body paint, and it looks like they'll be using me more for body paint and face art in the future. Anyway. They started with the last couple events doing corset painting, but they are opening up to more fun ideas starting with an asian theme. I sent them several different ideas and some photos from other artists and we came up with a cherry blossom motif. I didn't get much time to work, but I used a technique I developed a couple of years ago to get an even look satin look to the body paint and doing quick brush work over it, which worked out well since asian art, like Sumi is made using simple strokes. I only spent about 2 hours TOTAL painting these two lovely ladies, and about 15 min on makeup.

Very nice.
Um, in that top pic... is the model the buffet? Very nice work.

so are you able to share any hints on that technique for bases? It's gorgeous, and those are great pictures

Wonderfull. Fantastic. Well done!!!
I would love to know your secret to applying the base as well...
I have a very expensive camera and professional flash etc I wish I had the patience to master it, I feel like I spend so long stuffing around with settings!
And I can't take it to gigs because I'm paranoid about people nicking off with it.
Your pictures look so good. you should be very proud of your work.
Thanks for sharing them, they are inspiring!

Thank you all, I had such lovely canvases, it makes it easy. As far as the technique, I 've never known anyone else to use it, but it doesn't mean no one has. For this I used a sheer face/body paint called Kryolan interfreeze, wine color. I then used a large cosmetic powder brush to evenly buff in Mehron gem powder. It works better when the model is laying down so the powder doesn't just fall on the floor before you can buff it in with the brush. you could use another cosmetic shine powder, I like the gem powder because of the high pigment, nice shine, and superfine consistency. Some other powders are more like super fine glitter and you'll get more sparkle than shine (I tried Mac and it was like that). Anyway that's how I did it, and you can't buy that color it came from using that technique. You can use it over opague paints too. I use it with opaque when I do corsets to make them appear satin.
Re: finally, a decent camera and some body paint
oh, the gem powder color I used was opal, I use different powders depending on the effect I want and the underlying color.

Nice work!! Love the sushi bar...
I've done a similar technique too for body painting... was doing a red satin teddy type thing which had to look pretty similar to the real one that the photographer had already photographed, so I did a base in Wolfe red and then brushed MAC red pigment powder over the whole thing with a large soft brush... with the model standing inside a jacuzzi tub to catch the fall-out!
Gives a great opaque finish.
And using shimmer powders on top of flat black is awesome too.

Gorgeous!
I need to find a better camera. I bought a new one but HATE it! (It's a Nikon and I have so much better luck with Canon's it seems!)

I loved the technique. At 1st I thought you'd painted over a fine silk & then i realized it was all paint. Very impressive(I'd love to see a step by step on that).
I've wanted to do a vail that looks like that.

Excellent! I heard of other people doing the "person buffet", but this is fantastic. Good job.
Re: finally, a decent camera and some body paint
Maybe it's just practice. Is it a DSLR? From what I've heard, a good photographer can get good pix from any SLR camera. I'm still learning, luckily I know some photographers who will be happy to give me pointers

That sushi buffet photo totally reminds me of the Sex & The City movie--hilarious!
I really love the cherry blossoms.

Beautiful, I've used that technique with eye designs and masks but never thought of using it for full body art.
Thank you for sharing and beautiful work!!!
