Glamor shots
Ok, so I went a little crazy. I bought a bunch of feather boas and made a backdrop for my chair.
The idea is that I just slip it over the back of my chair and then match a boa to their design. I...um, couldn't decided on what color of boas to get, so I got ....several.
Here is a close up of the "glamor shot". I figured it would be a good selling plug and make the girls feel extra special. My husband suggested I get a a cowl for the boys. So they could be extra spooky with skull faces and such.
And my hubby is installing hooks on the back of my chair to hang my boas.
What'cha thing??

That's a really neat idea! If you have a portable photo printer, you could offer pictures for a certain price, not to mention, you'll have great pics for your selection board!

Re: Glamor shots
I love it. The whole Set up. How did you do the back? what holds it up? The chair is awesome? Who's chair is it? Is it the environmental one that everyone is talking about? It looks wide enough to hold 2 people.
for the boas, instead of hooks, couldn't you use the scarf hanger that is a series of large holes? (I saw them at the container store just a day or two ago.
Great job on the backdrop and the whole idea. Thank you for sharing.

Re: Glamor shots
Great idea, and the boas make the finishing touch for photos. I think if you had the backdrop away from your chair with someone else taking photos during your event would be more profitable because getting out of the chair for a photo shoot is a great incentive.
Photos take quite a bit of set up & posing time while you could be painting another face in that same time frame.
I have boas but dont use them as head lice seems to be going around. To keep your boas unoccupied and fresh, put two in each pillow case and into the freezer (at least overnight) to prevent any embarrising 'discoveries'.

I got the chair from Namies. http://www.naimies.com/ I don't think it is that much larger than other director's chairs or anything. The back drop I sewed myself (and I'm shocked that it worked so well!" I took a piece of black denim, two aluminum poles, and a wooden rod. The aluminum poles are sewed into the sides. I measured it so it was just wide enough to slip over the chair, like a pillowcase. Then I made a pocket in the top where I can slip in the wooden rod to give the top structure. It doesn't take but a minute to attach it to the chair.
The scarf hanger thing I'll have to look into. Thanks for suggesting it!

I think it would be more for birthday parties than other types of events. Something that already has a set number of kids. I'm just getting going in my business, and I'm trying to find ways to make myself more irresistible. (grin) And thanks for the ideas on freezing the boas afterwords.
Re: Glamor shots
Love it! Was just thinking the other day how I could make my pics more professional. Great Idea!!
Re: Glamor shots
I love it! I'm always self conscious of what's in the backdrop of my photos at home... is my laundry there, a giant lego set up, my big furry dog? I'll need to see what I can construct. Maybe a pice of black fabric & velcro it to the wall of my canopy... hmmmm
Re: Glamor shots
Use PVC pipe to create a frame that fits onto your chair rails by sliding over the top of the aluminium tubing (if you have an aluminium chair!) ... the attach fabric.

Cool. You may notice I have done this for the last two newsletters ala Rebecca Tonckovitch of Arty Brush Cakes. Check out her site to see how well those boas can work and for help with color. I find that using a solid boa with matching the lightest color(not white) works well to help the colors pop. I have not found that multi-colored boas work very well.

Looks awesome, what a great Idea!
I was thinking though - my four year old little girl would not be able to resist touching them - last thing you want is sticky fingers in your boas while your not looking - or busy painting.
If you hook them on the back of the chair won't they be behind the backdrop and out of your site?
I had a couple of boas but they fell apart - I think with age..... bit's of feathers everywhere!!! Maybe they were cheap ones, can't remember.
I was thinking of making cheap butterfly clips with a couple of colored feathers in them to hold their hair back, and they could keep them.....
Haven't found a way to budget for this yet but I thought it would stop the whole head band nit issue.

Re: Glamor shots
You could just use bobby pins. Those are cheap. I've been using little hair clips. I got them at Dollar Tree. 30 for $1.00

I face my chair towards the crowd of kids, so the feathers are behind me and and everyone. I did two gigs today. I kept them all in my bag until I needed a color. Then I pulled it out, used it, and hung it on the chair.
Worked pretty good.

The top two are the ones I did today. The backdrop/feathers looked great!
Re: Glamor shots
What if you used a white back ground. When I was looking at the pictures. The girls with the dark hair blended in to the black back ground but I love your idea.
