Wolfe Rainbow Cake
First let me say that this is NOT a bash towards Wolfe but I am just curious if anyone else has had this problem.
About a year ago I ordered a NEON rainbow cake from Silly Farm. I got it and I just fell in love so on my next order I ordered 2 more and put them away in a bag.
I was getting down to the bottom of my first rainbow cake and decided to take what was left of it and separate them into there colors and make different cakes with there individual colors. While doing this I pulled my 2 store away cakes out of my storage and decided to cut one of them up as well and as I was mashing the yellows together I noticed something........ One the 2 rainbow cakes that I had stored away instead of using neon yellow, they used primary yellow!!!!! Now I don't know if this was a one time mistake or if this is something that happens regularly but I was pretty disappointed and my yellow neon was now mushed with primary yellow.
I contacted silly farm about it and while I really don't have anything nice to say about the first lady that I spoke to... Heather then called me back and was very nice and offered to contact someone for me... She did and since the order was so long ago there was nothing they could do about it.... Heather did offer to send me a neon cake for free though for my troubles and I thought that was very nice...
So, anyone else have this problem?!

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
This is not the same problem, but kinda similar. I had ordered my first ever large traditional rainbow cake from SF. I was so excited when I got it in the mail. I tore it open and imediately swiped a damp sponge to it and started to put the colors on my arm. Then I noticed the colors on my arm looked "funny". I looked back at the rainbow cake and the yellow and green were out of order. So instead of ROYGBP, I got a ROGreenYellowBP. You wouldn't think it would make that much of a dif, but it did. The colors in the middle were very muddy looking and green next to orange didn't look very good at all. So after a few calls and emails with pictures of my rainbow cake, it came down to I had already used it so they could not offer a refund or exchange. Bummer

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Oh that is a bummer!!! I can see how that would make a big difference... if you still have it maybe you can mess around with it and cut the green out and move it over or something... Put it up for trade in the forum shop or just cut it apart in individual sections and make one yellow cake, one green...etc..

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
I never thought about trying to take the colors out and switch them. Duh! Great idea. When I get a chance to play around with it, I'll let you know

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
have not had a problem with any silly farm product...but, I do know about the not so pleasant lady you spoke with. I had a lil problem with an advertised discount once. She isnt the nicest person around and I have always had a great experience with Heather....

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Your problem has nothing to do with Wolfe, but rest solely on Silly Farm.
Wolfe FX an Face Art just this last year started producing their own rainbow cakes. They now have rainbow cakes factory made. All other cut cakes prior from various stores are/were not factory made and sold by Wolfe Face Art and FX.
The cakes you bought were cut by Silly Farm at Silly Farm and well they may be Wolfe paint (some cakes did ((do?)) contain various brands mixed) They fact that the yellow was not neon even though sold by SF as neon and packed in a Wolfe Neon 80/Purple container has nothing to do with Wolfe FX and Face Art.
If you want true Wolfe rainbow cakes which come in Neon and Primary (Essential) colors and packed as NR and RB buy them elsewhere. Silly Farm now sells the cakes in different packaging - certainly they needed to make this move - as one can't buy Kellogg's Rice Krispies and Kellogg's Frosted Flakes and mix hem together, pour it back into the two Kellogg's boxes and slap their own company label on it and call it their cereal. Even still pouring it into your own box, with your label and sell it as your own Kellogg's mix raises questions and concerns.
Note I do buy from Silly Farm - I just know that you are not the first with cut cake issues. Buy a real Wolfe FX brand cake.

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Interesting. They told me that Wolfe made the cake and that it wasn't their issue. They even said that they tried contacting them and that they said since it was so long ago that they wouldn't exchange it for me.
Hopefully they did sent the replacement... I still haven't received it.

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Just an update for those who care... I never got the rainbow cake. Not that I am shocked. Confirms my reason for no longer shopping there.

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Interesting....
There is a reason for not using neon yellow in the rainbow split cake. The neon colors are used for their color, not for their neon qualities in rainbow cakes. If you are using it for it's neon qualities you must ask that all the colors are neon. As you know the neons are not as opaque as the essentials. Most of the neon colors are very bright and work wonderfully in the rainbow pallet. The neon yellow however is very 'washed out' whereas the essential yellow works very well in the rainbow combination. So most people use essential yellow when making the rainbow cake. If you need the yellow to be neon, just replace it with neon.

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Actually I think if I buy a neon cake, I would like all colors to be neon. I think it looks just fine with the neon yellow in the cake. I really shouldn't have to purchase a neon yellow cake to replace a color that shouldn't be in there in the first place. I have a DFX neon rainbow cake and I love it as is... A true neon rainbow.

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
First again - The cake (I will assume and bet on) was not made by Wolfe.
I do know SF bought Wolfe rainbow cakes when Wolfe first got them last summer - I also bought/and got cakes from that that same Wolfe shipment - and all are labeled (neons) NR and (essentials) RN and not packed into containers with other labels. And all are factory pressed and do not have that hand cut look your cake has with the sliced separating.
Now I have never had a rainbow cake with essential yellow and
I don't find the Wolfe Neon Yellow to be washed out at all. And I would not sub the yellow - but I do know the original Wolfe cakes to have the essential light blue and not neon - because it is the one essential color that actually does appear more neon then the neon blue. This was a decision made by the Wolfe team artists who know who all these colors work and known their varied client population (of which face painters are only part of in a larger pool).
And I was told this by Wolfe FX before my order was fulfilled so nothing was a surprise. I am actually happy that the blues where changed. It dawned on my after I posted the last time.
And I have used Diamond exactly 3 times - once was a rainbow cake and it had essential yellow it it - not neon.
I understand wanting what you buy and expect. And to in wanting all neon. However I also venture you want the best looking results overall based on application.
If you want a 100% neon that would only be important if you really plan to be doing UV rainbow painting? If your doing basic face art and your application is daytime and standard lighting then going for what looks (appears to the client to be the most (neon) colorful is really your best goal - as that's your money maker. So yellow, blue - whatever make your clients happy.
Ok now I have to wash off the rainbow strip off my arm along witht he two blues and two yellows! Lt blue essential glows darker purple (than the neon purple) - neon blue glows light blue - essential yellow glows zip, looks like mud and neon yellow glows yellow.

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Well I was cutting the rainbow cakes up to use each individual color (since I over bought on them and they were just sitting there anyways...) I went to smoosh the yellow in with my neon yellow and it didn't match and ruined all of the yellow then because it was now a moosh of neon and primary yellow. I have been doing some black light painting and wanted the neon yellow for that reason. Also one of my designs required neon yellow flowers Now I figured instead of buying all of the neon colors I would just cut up the rainbow cakes and put them in little individual containers.... Worked for all but yellow... I have since bought all of the neon colors and I guess in that sense it isn't such a big deal... The thing that really gets me though is the complete poor customer service. Finally then when they say that they will make it right by sending me a full neon rainbow cake... it never comes. Since day one my customer service experiences have been awful with them and I wish I had never spent one penny at their shop for this reason. I am by no means a mean spirited or rude customer but after all of the bad experiences I have had with them I am through... I guess I just feel kind of sour grapes over the whole thing and past experiences. I don't think that people should stop buying from them... but I sure would never again... My money goes where I am treated with respect and courteously. I do appreciate your knowledge on the situation though...

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Hey - I'm with you - if you say you'll send me a replacement....... it should come! And yeah - your still mad - I'm sure your not mean or rude.
I only buy an occasional magazine there or airbrush ink and then too because I get 10% off that with my World Body Painting Membership. They have many happy customers and have lost many too.
And I over bought on neons too! Meant to order smalls and mediums and got mediums and larges! So I am going to be selling and rockn' lots of neon this summer. My photographer and I have bought some big lights......so UV body art and lots of bright kids are coming this way!
I really like the neon pop in with primary colors. That neon yellow as a highlight in monster faces and that pop of green for reptiles and orange or pink in tigers and butterflies - it just really sets the face art so nicely.

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Sorry to say sounds like BS to me... all explanations aside if I buy a NEON rainbow cake I expect all the colours in it to be NEON.
Simple.
Regardless of what I'm planning to use it for.
Whoever you ordered from (in this case Silly Farm) should take responsibility for selling a faulty product and replace it.
Sorry this happened to you Suzy.

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
Using the regular yellow sounds reasonable, but should have been disclosed first. A simple "this is regular yellow and it really works better in this rainbow" would have been all that needed to be said.
I hate that they didn't send a replacement. That is one of the biggest business mistakes in my book. Always do what you say. Under promise and over deliver......NEVER the other way around.
But......as I have always asked anyone who was upset with a vendor, you did give them a chance to fix it.
I still say you should let Heather know what has happened. I have always gotten great customer services when working with her directly. It has always been other folks at SF that seem less interested in the success of Heather's business.

TASH,
WHAT is the split that you are using for that stargazer lilly? Absolutely beautiful. Would LOVE to see a step by step of that, pretty please!
I see a flower challenge in our future.

Re: Wolfe Rainbow Cake
I bought it originally from silly farm, it's called 'Wineberry' I have since remade it with Paradise as I liked the colors so much.
It's Dark Purple/Red/Pink/Gold/white.
I will try a step by step for you this week if I get a chance, my mum is in hospital and my little one is on school holidays so my days are very busy atm.
I must say I have never had a problem with Silly farm and suggest them to anyone who asks where to buy face painting equipment.
Next order - Split cake Rainbow Pallet! - Can't wait to get cashed up again.

Could you put a large picture of it in your gallery or post here so I can see up close.
This is my all time favorite flower and I love your take on it. Thanks!
