Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
=Arty cakes are small and rainbows are big. They all use various brands of paint except for the TAG Rainbows and One Strokes.
Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
What is different about the TAG ones?

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
TAG is a brand of paint that's similar to DFX and Wolfe. TAG has the most economical one strokes and rainbows. You can buy both of them right here in the Forum Shop.
Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
I think that the tag one stroke cakes may have more in them too, and the Tag rainbow cakes are 50 gram, not sure how bit the round rainbow cakes are from silly farm. The biggest large split cake (by wieght) is the pirsma. If you liike paradise, you cannot beat them because you can use them as one strokes or as rainbows too and they last and last. They are all different, they have different colors and opacities, and combos.
Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
I have one rainbow from Silly Farm. Transferred it to a TAG 32 gm container. Filled the container bottom to the rim. If you are going to start investing you might want to try the TAG. The big rectangle 50 gms are easier to load when using a sponge and the one strokes are a nice size with plenty of paint. I don't have any Arty cakes to compare sizes with TAG but do have a DFX mini one-stroke and it is tiny and difficult to load compared to the TAG. Personally have gotten hooked now on making my own splits...much more economical.
Here you can see the DFX mini (rainbow cake in lower left) compared to the TAG one-strokes.

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
I had the Arty & DFX tiny cakes both overpriced & arty cakes got used up quick.
I have no patience to load those small or rectangular cakes and found making my own is the way to go for me. I have them in 2 3/4" long wells for a fast load. The smaller wells at the bottom are bigger than the Arty cakes.
When I wanted extra rainbow cakes, I got empty boxes from Metina to make them for a horizontal load. Then I found another container and moved the extra cakes there ; )

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
I do. I've never bought one pre-made. They are much cheaper to make than to buy.
Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
HOW? lol. Buy a few, cut em in half with a knife, then shove em together again?

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
also, are the one strokes/arty cakes the same general size, so that I could fit them in this:
sillyfarm.com /store/index.php?p=product&id=2819&parent=611
I can't post a link for some reason but I'm point to a case with round cutouts and rectangular ones.

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
There are a lot of posts on split cakes and how to make them etc. There is a search bar at the top of the page. Type in "split" and you should have a lot of old threads to read through.
Lots of info here if you take the time to look

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
The old arty cakes were tiny, like the dfx one strokes. The new arty cakes are longer like the TAG one strokes but the TAG one strokes have more paint than the newer arty cakes. They look very similar but they are different sizes.
Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
so I guess the answer is no, they won't fit in those case inserts.

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
So true Flopsie, the Arty cakes have a small amount of paint for the money but great for those who don't want to make their own.
Rampant, here is how I make rainbow cakes; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUAbMw1RK1c
I've used Metina's empty boxes to make rainbow cakes with smaller strips and sometimes include a tiny strip of black for time saving self-outlining on my One Stroke work ...
I used Snaz Sparkling light & dark Electric green and they blend beautifully but for florals I use DFX colors that show more color seperation for good contrast in the petals as shown in my avatar.
This was a rose I did with Snaz colors that blended TOO well. Note the nice color seperation in the DFX leaves. Needless to say, I replaced the Snaz red & white with DFX on my One Stroke pallet!
Hope this helps,
Susan

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
If you are asking if the arty cake and tag cake containers are the same size, That answere would be pretty much yes, and no. I think that both would fit in the foam insert for the laptop cases, but the tag holds more paint so it is just a little deeper.
You can certainly make your own, and the sky is the limit as to how you do it, what color combos you try, and what paints you put together, what kind of container to use, how deep it is, how long it is, you really can customize it to just how you like it. It is almost always cheeper to make your own than to buy them, but, it is also kind of intimidating to cut up paint. Keep an eye out on the forum too, people will have stuff to get rid off on the exchange-for sale thread, and you can pick up some splits that way too.
If you search threads, you will find many past discussions on it, and there are some good youtubes too...I think Susan just put one out on her FB page and website this last week. Seeing how other people have done it, and that there are many methods will make you feel more comfortable with the whole process.

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
Rampant, I have the laptop with the foam insert for the one strokes. It fits the new Arty cakes and the TAG one strokes. The TAG one strokes fit very snug into the cutouts as the Arty cakes are a hair thinner.
Susan, I always love seeing your work. I am a big fan of pre-made one strokes and rainbow cakes as I don't trust myself enough to make them.

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
Thank you Flopsie. Making your own One Stroke cakes is easier than you think and a great way to get more use out of and combine the bits of paint left in old cakes.
I do have to warn you, once you find out how easy it is, making your own rainbow cakes can be highly addictive ; )
Enjoy,
Susan

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
Easy, yes. Addictive, I can't say that, because I'm still terrified to cut into my paints! I love the way they look in their pots. All smooth and flat. Then they get mucked up after I paint for awhile, and I don't want to use them in a split.
Hi. My name is Diane, and I am afraid to cut up my paint.
Meanwhile, I love the TAG one strokes. I have an arty cake, too, which is nice, but doesn't seem to be wearing evenly. One color is softer than the others. I didn't notice any difference in the size of the pots they came in, but I'm not trying to fit them into a foam insert. The difference I noticed most was that the TAG seemed to have more paint in the pot. The depth of the actual paint was closer to the rim of the pot, if you know what I mean.

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
Okay, after I actually put that all in writing, I decided I was being stupid, and went for it. I have been wanting to try to make a pearl red, white, and blue cake out of my TAG pearls since Denise Cold showed how great the colors look together.
Drumroll please....
I DID IT!!!
And only slightly hyperventilated while cutting into my beautiful, beautiful blue.
Results: The blue was a bit crumbly, but workable. The red and white moved like a dream. I put the new one stroke in a 32 gram TAG pot I had lying around. It doesn't go all the way to the edges, of course, which messes with the slight OCD tendencies I didn't know I had, but it is AWESOME!!
Then I had to re-shape the blue, because the mess of part of it being gone was freaking me out. I may have wasted a bit getting it into a shape that makes me slightly less freaked, but it was a worthy sacrifice, for my own sanity.
I was surprised to find that with only one load, the swatches still didn't run together and get muddy.

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
I found out why the Arty cakes don't wear evenly. Half is Kryolan and the other half is Wolf FX. Kryolan is well softer than wolfe so there you go.

Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
Arty cakes and SF rainbow cakes are made of a variety of paints. They don't give you specific information. I think Rebecca put so much work into getting the whole Arty Brush Cakes craze off the ground. She has come up with so many beautiful color combinations. I even like these little guys to use them like little single color samplers.
Re: Arty cake vs Rainbow cake?
actually, I asked silly farm and they specifically told me it is Kryolan/Wolfe. At least for their cakes.
