Acrylic Gem Clusters
Hi Guys, I want to make some gem Clusters for a princess party this weekend. I can't seem to find odour free silicone glue here in Ireland. Would it be safe to use acid free Docraft stick it! silicone glue. Has anyone used any other type of glue?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a go. I've got some glitter dimensional fabric paint which could be interesting. How long did the gem clusters take to dry?
Re: Acrylic Gem Clusters
Fabric paint usually takes about 24 hours to be solid.
I don't do gem clusters, I stick things to fabric with it.

Actually, I've used it to make some gem clusters and it works fine. I stuck them to a ziplox bag. At least it's not toxic like the silicone glue. Thanks.
Re: Acrylic Gem Clusters
I use clear packing tape.
I lay a short length, sticky-side up.
i place the largest central stone, and then decorate with smaller stones.
Instant bling gratification.
I cut them out with small embroidery scissors.
I put Prosaid on the back of them gems and let them get tacky (30-60 seconds) and plop them onto a clear plastic sheet that snaps into a small 3 ring binder. I do not let the children leaf through the binder, as they are not very delicate and they pop off all the bling. I organize the bling by central gem colour. I may show them the one page to choose from... although not to touch.
When I am painting, I plop the Prosaid on the still-wet paint in the area I am going to bling up. When I finish the painting, I add the gem cluster as the last step before they leave my chair to go look into the mirror.

I bought silicone & never used it. I do use Tulip brand fabric paint: Silver Glitter & Gold Glitter are my favs. I have used the metallics (silver & gold) to make jewelry.
You can slip a paper w/graph on it inside a sheet protector & make your gem clusters on the sheet protector. I let mine dry 6-8 Hrs, then turn over to let the other side dry. Just use an artists tool or knife to ease the cluster off & flip to dry. Here's some pics:

The 1st three were made with Tulip brand glitter fabric paint. The last (a menorah for a Hanukkah event) was made using Tulip gold metallic fabric paint. Then I do what Fesspenter does. (see above). Have fun, but be careful. It's addicting!
