Acrylic paint again!
This pass weekend I went to a kids Festival with my little ones and I almost have a heart attack they were charging $1 per face, obviously very bad designs and the painter were two teens with no training at all, I mean... what can you expect for $1?
The fact is that one of them was using acrylic paint but obviously no body cares.
I was planing to talk with the girls but was so many people that was just impossible to get close at leas that you get in line and wait for your turn.
Anyway I am planing to contact the organizer about this situation because I feel with the civic obligation of let them know about the risks of using acrylic paint.
I am still upset about it.

Re: Acrylic paint again!
I always paint my kids before we go any place like that..
control what you can control....if they don't care, you can't make them care-but you can get some information over to the organizer for next time.....plant a little bug in their ear about acrylic on the face is a "no-no".
And actually, using snazaroo, alcohol and brushes, the cost per face is less than 50 cents..........
add in a sponge cut into thirds, and the cost is still less than a dollar....
when people pay professional prices, they are paying for the time and skill and training of the professional artists, not so much the cost of supplies per face......one snaz jumbo palette has lasted me almost 1,000 faces-and counting!i've only had to replace the white so far.

OMG, what a horror. Yes, contact them. It's probably not that they don't care, it's probably that they don't know any better!
Re: Acrylic paint again!
I just painted a little one the other day who said the last time she had gotten painted she got a really bad rash and then her mother chimed in and confirmed that it was horrible. She didn't know what they were using but she said it looked nothing like my paints.
It was a great opportunity for me to say out loud for the benefit of the other nearby parents that if you don't see paints that look something like mine then don't let that person paint your child.

Re: Acrylic paint again!
Any time that I have opportunity to mention the parent to take care about the products that are putting in their kids face I do it.
I care about my kids safe and any other kid that I paint, I think every parent that let their kids painted trust the organizer of this event, believing that they know what is safe for the kids; but I agree with you Tina they might not even have idea the risks of putting acrylic in the kids face and I am sure the parents don't have idea either.
As a parent and now with the knowledge of the risk of acrylic paint I truly believe is my obligation to aware the organizer about it, with the only intention to take care of the kids (even if they are not mine).

Re: Acrylic paint again!
Were the teens allowed to keep the money, or was the money ment for the organisation?
I wouldn't make such a big deal about the price, because I feel the intention was more voluntary, as they were using teens.
If they wanted brilliant, fantastic, awesome facepaintdesigns, they would have hired a "real and professional facepainter"!!!
But using the wrong kind of paints, even if it is done by teens is absolutely a No-Go!
It's a good idea to point that out to the organisation. They probably know not so much about facepainting.
Probably just thought it would be fun, to have that at this occasion, and probably just asked some teens if they wanted to do so.

I didn't know you're supposed to wash your hands with baby wipes!
I keep a damp towel and hand sanitizer.

It's just something I personally do because I am OCD about anything on my hands.
The reporter made the "5 Things" list up herself because I certainly didn't.... It's a headline they use a lot for our local paper - (i.e., "5 Things You Should Know Before You Buy a New Car." ) I also didn't say you should ask whether or not the painter belongs to an organization.... merely stated that we have a local guild and our main concern is maintaining integrity through professional practices and professional products.

Re: Acrylic paint again!
I was at the Renaissance Fair in Sterling Forest, NY last weekend, a HUGE venue, and they had a painter there using acrylics.
I confronted the painter who told me oh it's fine it's hypoallergenic yadadada and I told her NO it is not ok and will likely cause bad reactions in quite a few children.
There was a woman getting ready to have her daughter painted who was watching us and looked concerned, I told her that acrylic is not in any way safe for skin.
The face painter then told me the paint was... Wait for it... ORGANIC!
I said Oh My! Organic acrylic paint, really?!? She then looked uncomfortable, as she should.
Am thinking about contacting the ren fair to let them know. You'd think they had insured pros working there...

Re: Acrylic paint again!
good luck with that. I notified an organizer about their "acrylic" face painter and was basically told to mind my own business and that they would remember my attitude (?) if I applied for any future festivals. Guess she was a personal friend or family member of theirs.

I already send the mail when I get the answer I will share what happen. I hoping for the best and be able to make them be conscious about it, if not... well I did my part.
