Yes, yes, yes!! Something similar that I forgot...I love when I paint at the residential school for autistic kids (only FP they ever called back for a 2nd year) and the parents come to talk to me at the end of the event to say thank you for picking up on and working through:
-their child's extreme touch sensitivity
-uncontrolled tics
-grabbing at my hand while painting
-constant talking
-unexpected outbursts
....with patience and a smile because I know they really want to get painted and talk about great mirror moments!
I know exactly what you mean! I volunteer at a local Autism Walk every year and it's probably THE most rewarding gig of my entire year. I don't charge for this event, and what ever I make in tips I give the event coordinators, simply because it is a cause I beleive in so much.

I agree. All of the above. I love when after a magical mirror moment they walk off in character... roaring like a tiger or wavig like a princess. I love children and their imaginations!
Re: Things I LOVE about customers
...but I also love when the client reserves me a close spot to park, especially in bad weather. Considerate clients are a very close second to wonderful children. Love my job!!

That was me with baby #2...my aunt the photographer INSISTED that she get a shot of me exposing the big stretched out thing, so happy she forced me....I cherish that picture now.Gamezgirl wrote:And what about those mom's (I was one of them) who's bump isn't as perfect and round and pretty as others.

I love it when a busy busy wont-sit-down-and-rest very pregnant mom of 2+ sits to get painted, drinking tea, and says "Wow! This is the first time I've sat down to relax in months!" ...ok, just happened once but I've only done 3 bellies!
I love it when grandma or grandpa loves it and is not only happy to pay the biggest amount for the best design, but gives you a tip on top of it!
Yes, of course the mirror momment!!! ...and the way they keep coming back to the mirrors to look at themselves over and over. That's why I try to set up a bunch of mirrors.
...when a teenager (or even adult or child) says "Wow! You are SO talented. You're the BEST face painter I've EVER SEEN!" (like, more than once.)
...when my daughter's friend sees me with my kit and screams "YAY! She's gunna face paint! You're the BEST PAINT FACER EVER!!"
...when adults ask if they can please have your card and are excited to get it or when kids ask if they can PLEASE please have a card to give to their mom or dad.
...when you're not so happy with your design but the child LOVES it in the mirror anyway.
...when you can hear in their voices that the parents really love it.

I love it when the mom & daughter or dad & son get matching designs!
I love when the family is courteous & treats me like a person & not just the "hired help".
I love when I find out I'm face painting the child for the 1st time ever!
I love Mirror Moments!

Re: Things I LOVE about customers
I love when I overhear one of the kids I've painted say to my daughter, "She's your mom? You are sooo lucky!" (then I think to myself "See, I told you I was cool!")
Re: Things I LOVE about customers
Okay, this happened the other day....
I love it when the mom doesn't want to wait in line for free face painting and tells the kid, "Oh, come on hunny, I can do that for you at home." and the kid responds with, "Not like that you can't! I'm waiting for HER!"
OMG, it was all I could do to keep from dying right there from laughter, I just kept it all in.

Glitterfly, this is one of my favorite moments! I do an event for autism awareness each year and many of the kids I paint are the siblings so sometimes I can't tell which child has autism, the signs are so different. I had a mom put a little girl in my chair that was about 5. The mom seemed so cautious but the little girl just smiled and sat very still. When I was done she was so happy and the mom was crying. She said, " You don't understand, she doesn't let people touch her. This is the first time she has ever let a stranger touch her and get that close." It brings happy tears to my eyes even now.

OK, I just finished reading this thread ,it is 3.58 AM and I'm trying to be quiet and not to wake up my family, but I am really laughing out loud at the last 2 posts! Geekophile, I have had that moment a bunch and thought that same thought. My kids never believed me before when I told them I was cool, but now their friends have them convinced!
Punky, That is the greatest! I bet you about fell out of your chair. I would have loved to seen the parents face.
I have one more moment that I love, this happened a couple days ago. When the last child in line has been waiting for an hour and at the end of the painting (after and amazing mirror moment) I tell grandma and the child, thank you for waiting so patiently and grandma says, " No, it was completely worth it, by the way, my husband is president of Ohio State College , would you consider coming to the college? We are always doing events and you would be great!" Yay! great mirror moment, happy family, and a future gig.

I love all of these!
Although what made my day today was a class full of letters saying thank you for painting our faces and you are the best ever! (I especially loved the one from my own daughter )
