Christmas Festivals

I know it is super early but I think I'd like to bring one of these to my town. Can any of you give me some insight on the different types of events and activities that happen at these?

The weather is usually cold here during that time.

the small city in my area does a whole week of events, different ones on different days.

it's more commercial, sponsored by the local business association to draw shoppers to the downtown businesses -
santa's arrival, crafts for kids, ice carving, chili and chowder cook-offs, local wine & cheese, beer, and other foods, after ski party, local artists' market.

other nearby towns do more community things, christmas light displays and tree lighting, ice skating, holiday performances (music, theatre, story telling, comedy), gingerbread houses display by local kids, holiday events at local historic houses, craft fairs.

We used to have a big festival called Christmas on the Square, located around our town square, and it would draw folks from other towns. Sadly it has fizzled out in recent years, but I always enjoyed it. We didn't really have many events, but we did have a Christmas Parade (with a contest for best float). The local school choirs and local dance schools would put on performances, and there would be live music almost the whole day. Craft vendors as well as local shops would be able to pay a fee and set up booths, along with food vendors. There was always a kids section where they could do arts and crafts. I'm sure Santa would be there for a while to listen to the kiddies' wish lists and take pictures.
