Lisa Frank Inspiration
I needed some fresh ideas for the upcoming season so I turned to an old favorite. Lisa Frank!
First Up: "Tiger"
FYI: This kid is incredibly difficult to paint. She pretends to yawn and cough. She tries to help by turning her head, and she is the most wiggly, fidgety kid I've ever seen. Not to mention she feels the need to stretch every time I reload. GRRRRRR!
P.S. I still suck at sparkles.

Re: Lisa Frank Inspiration
i like the image you are drawing it from. to be honest, though, the face paint colors don't play as well together.
maybe try different shades of each? the background in the image looks a little bluer in places, and the pink looks a bit more fuschia.
i think your sparkles look good! the purple dots might work better in discrete groups in several places (near eyes, forehead, or sides of face?), rather than spread out. or maybe try more of the color shading like in the image?
being honest because i like you and i've seen your better work

Re: Lisa Frank Inspiration
I want to make it more rainbow too. It just doesn't look Lisa enough. Unfortunately that kid won't let me paint her very often. I told her I'm trading her for a kid who loves being painted.
jlirie thank you for the suggestions. I kinda like the way the colors play together though. It's not what I was going for but I like it as a version of a Fantasy Tiger and the kid who hates face paint refused to wash it off.

Re: Lisa Frank Inspiration
That's  often a fear I have about having kids, they would probably hate having their faces painted. Â
Least you can bribe them though. It's just me here, a pro-face and a bunch of bearded roommates.
Here's an artists rendition of us. Â

Ugh! Fear of commitment. I so appreciate the invite though
I did a butterfly on my other niece, I'm just waiting on my sis to send me the pics.
The rainbow tiger is super easy! I think I'm gonna leave it off my board and keep it as one of my "surprises". The kid in the pic just turned 3.
Thank God for nieces who love to be painted!

Kal attempt number two looks beautiful. I love it. The first one looks nice I like the color combo. I was obsessed with Lisa frank when I was small... I always love all the colors she used in her images

very good linework inside the wings, and tips on the edges, very clean.

That reaction made my day lol
Jlirie - Don't be fooled. That's my niece. You can put a new movie in for her and saw off a toe, she'd never notice. Was like painting a piece of paper. My brushes have just about had it.
The butterfly is all FAB.

Re: Lisa Frank Inspiration
yeah, i've had some of the littlest kids sit absolutely still, so easy to paint. but i'm trying to adapt my designs to be faster, which could help with the wigglers.

Re: Lisa Frank Inspiration
Yes I love having a simplified versions of my designs as well as more elaborate. That butterfly is made primarily of outlined tear drops but I need it to be more simple for regular F&F work. It gives me a good starting point though.

Re: Lisa Frank Inspiration
Lol thanks Kal. I was trying to find an emote that was suiting to my reaction lol.
I just noticed there is a hint of a rose on the bottom left side!
Speaking of amazingly still little kids, I painted this one little kid was just about 2 years old and he was eating something while in the chair. My first thought was "Great...." but he actually stopped chewing each time I started painting! I was impressed!
Outlined tear drops you say? Hmmmm, wondering if you could make the under colors with a #12 or #10 by doing seashells... might speed things up a bit. and maybe nix the detail above the eye in the eyebrows. It looks tedious to do and doesn't get that good or real estate to show off anyway. Perhaps just go for a solid purple there.
That just might be enough to shave off the time it would take to make it feasible for a display board design.
