My First Fall Festival
This is my very first post on the forum. I have replied to a couple of other posts and was encouraged to tell you all about how my event on Friday (10/24/14) went....A little about myself first....I started Face Painting in 2007. I am mostly self-taught, I've had one short lesson in my home from the legendary Pam Trent years ago. I love everything about Face and Body Art! Seeing the amazement on kid's/adult's faces when you show them what you have created is one of the best feelings I've ever experienced.
Over the years I have done several small birthday parties but nothing very big.
Last Friday I got the opportunity to paint at an Elementary school's Fall Festival!
I cannot tell you how excited and nervous I was!!! Though, it was not a paid event I had a blast! I was treating it as a test for myself and my business. I wanted to see if I could handle the higher volumes. Part of me wanted to jump and shout from the excitement. The other part of me wanted to run and hide. I was so scared that if this did not go well my dreams would be crushed and it would prove to me that I wasn't cut out to live out my dream.
I think it went well! I brought my best friend with me to help me with line control and there were two other people there painting. The other two people painting were just simple volunteers (a teacher's adult son and his girlfriend). The school had offered to supply paints for us all to use but I was afraid of what paint they would buy (I've read too many horror stories and frankly I am used to my paints and supplies. I use Paradise/ Mehron and Snazaroo...looking into the arty cakes and such. Need. More. Paints!).
I set up my display board with designs that I know I can produce quickly. I don't usually use a display board but I thought it would make things move smoothly. I am very grateful for this forum and all of the awesome suggestions and stories! I fashioned my display board with a word list and a couple drawn designs. Great idea, the word list, because the other painters came completely unprepared.
I must admit I found a guilty pleasure in hearing everyone saying "The Professional Face Painter is over there, she is good." and when the kids would come to my line after being painted by the other painters so that I could put glitter on their designs. I felt like a professional!
I am not sure how many faces I painted more than 30 less than 50 I am sure. I wish I kept count or at least told my "assistant" to keep a rough count. The time flew by so fast I was surprised when it was over!
All in all I believe that my first bigger event went way better than I was expecting and I am hoping for another opportunity like this. I have to give all of you on this forum a huge THANK YOU!!!!! without this place I think I would of talked myself out of it and never got the experience. Your stories, both good and bad, are a huge help!!
Unfortunately I was unable to take pictures of my work, because the school said no, but here are a couple pictures of myself and my setup that night.
