Flat brushes splitting Empty Flat brushes splitting

Post by monelle Wed Sep 10, 2014 8:58 pm

All of a sudden, some of my flat brushes are splitting. Instead of getting a nice, solid stroke, I get a few strokes, separated by spaces, if you know what I mean. What causes this? Are the brushes too old? Too crappy? I take extremely good care of them, keeping them very clean and shaped. Anyone have any ideers?

Mine split when they are too dry. Have you tried to add a little more water when loading your brush?

Even good brushes will split some times when painting, to trouble shoot this problem just reload them a tiny bit to put it back in place.

Sadly all brushes will start to do this more and more as the age. Get's to the point where they are unusable for fast work and need replacing. Tis just the way of things.

When they get like this... I donate them to our local public school.

I already have a glut of arts and craft brushes.
I have brushes just for oil painting.
I have brushes for water colour.
I want to share some semi-decent brushes for my children's old elementary school as they have TERRIBLE brushes.
Sharing the love!

I thought of giving them to my granddaughter for the mini face-paint kit i'm putting together for her for Christmas, but my inclinination is to give her only good tools--bad ones are so discouraging!

lol in my school art supplies my mom includes pends pencils and good paint brushes. She told me to never  share them too because other kids would wreck them, for proof she told me to look at the available brushes already at the school lol.

Didn't change in high school, stupid kids never washed out their brushes, among other things.

Also, when I do replace my flats...
I have been purchasing flats with shorter bristles than my first flat brushes. They are lasting longer, and I have less splitting occurring.
Denise Cold of The Painted Party has an excellent YouTube video on loading a flat brush for OneStrokes. Her video instantly helped my OneStroke painting, and gave me enough information so I can now instantly trouble shoot what is going wrong, so I can fix it.

I looked for the video on youtube, fesspenter, but could not find it. Do you know what it's called? One problem i am having is that I seem to wearing out the center of my one-stroke cakes quite a lot faster than the edges. Seems to be hard to avoid ... Sad

Subscribe to The Painted Party on YouTube
Loading your brush from a One-Stroke is the approximate title from her selection.

I use Royal Majestic for my one strokes. I just prefer the shorter bristles to the longer bristles.
