Wash vs Flat Empty Wash vs Flat

I know this is probably a stupid question but I only seem to find brushes that are "wash" brushes and no flats. I bought a few and tried to do roses with them using one strokes and it just doesn't look right. So I'm wondering it's just me or if I do need a "flat brush" in order to execute the design correctly.

Same brush, different name. A large flat is used as a wash for watercolour painting. Thus, different terminology depending upon the line of brushes and what they are being marketed for.

Ashovoxo, some brands are so much better for one-stroke facepainting than others. I find the longer ones more difficult to work with and some just don't have a nice thin edge. My favorites so far have been the Paradise, a Grumbacher GoldenEdge (on sale with a coupon), and a Royal softgrip. That listing is most to least expensive. I'm sure others have different favorites.

I've only used Royal Soft-Grip brushes for one-stroke work, and haven't seen a reason to change yet. I really like them, and they're so inexpensive. :-)
