Finicky Royal Blue

So my partner and I have not been satisfied with our Tag royal blue. Much like the neons it doesn't like to be applied with a brush and has a hard time getting opaque. Works well with a sponge though. We had the same problem with our mehron dark blue - all the other colors were fine, but the blue was finicky in the same way.

So any one know of a similar base brand to Tag that doesn't have this problem but would mix well with tag? We were thinking about trying the DFX blue or the Wolfe Blue.

Can any one tell me if those have the same issue? Or possibly how to solve our Royal blue issue?

I use a split of tag royal and Wolfe blue, to brush on I have to mix or I get horrible results with tag royal alone. I figured it was just me lol

Nope it's not just you, and we had the same issue with mehron dark blue when trying to use it by itself by brush.

I have always had issues too, except with the Wolfe metallic blue. At the moment I have that paired with reg. blue to take down the sheen abit.
I was wondering if Fab might be a solution?

Anyone know any fab and DFX users on here who could chime in?

Maybe its just dark blues across the board then?

Maybe try Global FX? I just picked up their red... red has been a hard color to get right historically, and theirs is hands down the best coverage and color from any other brand I've tried (including DFX or TAG).

I have been asking this same question on Facebook with no help!! I hate brushing blue, I need a good blue!! I have tried all paradise, tag royal, snaz metallic. No luck what about cameleon? Anyone have luck with their blue? I have a sampler with Wolfe blue, maybe I will give it a go with tag like Nikki suggested.

Wolfe blue was a no go also, maybe it's hopeless :/

It does, I have been looking at swatches for weeks, trying to find a good one, just not happening. Maye I will attempt to deal it with star blends.

I use FAB for certain blues. I like the Alice Blue and Minty Blue. For teal: Deep Ocean (doesn't stain)

What about dark blue Miss Ronnie?

Grabbed all my blues to give you a color swatch. My chubby little arm seemed the best place for them. I usually reach first for FAB Cobalt. You might like Brilliant Blue. Hope this helps.

The brilliant looks pretty good. I probably am going to just switch to star blends for the summer

I had exactly the same problem with DFX Essential Blue.  TAG Dark Blue, on the other hand, is gorgeous and very opaque--but watch it, it's very dark!  Also, it has a lot more green in it than Royal Blue. It looks like the old Crayola color Midnight Blue, or Prussian Blue.

Yeah the tag dark blue is crazy dark. I find myself using the metallic blue if i need some coverage and it works great.

Has anyone tried the Kryvaline metallic blue? (not the light one) ...

Global Ultra Blue has the same issue. Not opaque at all when applied with a brush. I need a few layers.

OK, Pat, unlike some others, I find your swatches rather mean-spirited--you make me want them ALL!

could be the ultramarine pigment. here's a link that says ultramarine tends to be granular and semi-transparent

Weird. I use global ultra blue with a brush all the time, never have trouble getting it to cover, which is nice as I LOVE that color blue!!
