Am I weird?!
Have been giving some workshops for up to six people. Went great!
Now I've been asked to give a workshop for ten and I said yes.
Only problem... I don't have enough paint for ten people, unless I'll be using my own paints.
I really feel uncomfortable using my own cases, am I weird?!
Because this means I'll have to buy some extra paints to use in the workshop, while leaving my own cases at home.
What do I do? Am I clowning around about this, or do you feel for me, and thus say: go and buy new paints for your workshops!

Re: Am I weird?!
i'm wondering why THEY don't have their own paints for the workshops?
i haven't been to a workshop yet, but i always assumed if i went, i'd have to bring my own stuff.

Re: Am I weird?!
I haven't done anything like this yet....
But I think I would buy some new paints especially for the workshops and keep the paints I use for gigs or practise for myself....
But I suppose that depends on your budget too...

I don't know what is customary but the workshops I did I didn't have to bring my paints only on some of the occasions my own brushes sometimes....
Re: Am I weird?!
IN my workshops the 'students' each have a cameleon teaser palette at their disposal during the workshop. For the other colours I use my own kit, and they use it - supervised by me of course.
Re: Am I weird?!
My workshops are beginner's classes, these are people.that often have never painted before, and don't own any paints, brushes and so on.
Re: Am I weird?!
You could also load up on basics and then split them into thirds or quarters. Meaning, if you had, say, a TAG red, yellow and orange, you could cut each color into thirds and then insert them so you have three discs with a red, yellow and orange wedge. This way, you have three containers for three people, but you've only bought three. It could save you money to do it that way, at least initially.

Re: Am I weird?!
Is this something you plan to keep doing? If so, might be easier to just buy the extra paint now, rather than use your own kit and then end up buying more for classes later on anyway.

Re: Am I weird?!
Have you thought about including a take home mini kit and including it in the price. And then a discount if they have their own supplies and have them compare to see if they have the supplies needed specifically for the class. Or maybe 3 price tiers (have own supplies, use your supplies, or take home kit). Of course the use of supplies owned by you constitutes a higher price, or a mark up for supplies you're selling them for the class and your time to collect them. Just an idea.
Re: Am I weird?!
Thanks for all the good advices!
I'm glad no one said: you're weird, let them use your own kit! At least Tineke siad: use it under supervision!
Think I'll be buying some extra colours, and indeed splitting them up! In that case I'll have two sets of everthing (i'll split them in half).
And thank you Thouartbeautiful for that splendid idea! I will sort that out, because it's a very good plan!

Re: Am I weird?!
I've not done any facepainting workshops, but when I was teaching quilting and bear making, we would give the students a supply list, or create a kit that they would purchase prior to start of the class. This way everyone had everything needed and they would be able to take it home with them afterwards. If you put the kit together, I would add in a couple dollars for your time and efforts. You might even be able to get everything at a wholesale price as well.
Re: Am I weird?!
An agent once told me that for someone to ask to borrow my brushes, was like asking a musician to borrow their instrument. (In other words, out of the question).
I would add on a fee for them to have a kit provided if they do not have their own. They could then keep it, or not, as you wished.

Re: Am I weird?!
They never get to use my brushes! Never the brushes! I just show my brushes to show then the different shapes and what you can do with them, and then they get to play with workshop brushes :p
Re: Am I weird?!
I bought tennew colours, and cut them in half. Also did the same to the colours I already had for workshops.
I now have 20 boxes of paints, each with two colours!
That must be enough for 10 persons and I don't have to use my own kit! :-)
Dear Miss Ronnie, I'm glad I'm not alone!

Re: Am I weird?!
I have done workshops and even at extra cost I got a snazaroo small kit for them, I bought 2 Snazaroo Jumbo pallet and made split cakes with them, I got enough paint for 10 people one time and I still use it now when I have big gigs with extra painters. And I don't think you are weird I don't like to share my paint with non professionals painters, I suffer a lot when somebody unload the brush in the wrong way leaving it useless after that or when they put too much water on your paint.
Re: Am I weird?!
Buy new paints for your workshops. I really don't like others to use my paint.

Re: Am I weird?!
I would make them get their own paints, they can buy small kits on places like Amazon. That being said, I wouldn't want to train the "competition", lol
