This may sound like a weird question....
but does anyone know where I can find some information about the ecological friendliness of face paints? I'm doing a grand opening event in a couple of weeks for a store that sells eco-friendly stuff (soaps, cleaners, house paints, reusable containers, etc.) and I'm sure to get some questions about the ingredients that I can't answer. The only stuff I've got right now is an ingredients list from Snazaroo and all I can tell is that it is mostly synthetics... which is not necessarily a bad thing, but I'd like more information if I can get it.
Re: This may sound like a weird question....
I would just write an email or call them and ask.... like if you use Wolfe, just call Kurt or write an email and ask for any info that they can give, or contact Gary... ya know.
That's what I would do.

Re: This may sound like a weird question....
Interesting... I usually just use ingredient lists and MSDS.
Have you emailed the individual companies to ask for their "statements" on their earth safe status?

Re: This may sound like a weird question....
Only a page in Danish Here they both list what is considered bad for the skin and for the environment. But here is the short version:
Parabenes: hormone disturbing
Perfume: allergy provoking
Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, DMDM hydantoin, 2-bromo-2nitropropane-1,3 diol, Triethanolamine, Phenoxyethanol, Propylene carbonate, Sodium carbonate, Methyldibromoglutaoronitrile: allergy provoking or skin irritating.
BHT, BHA (also hormon disturbing), EDTA, Myristyl alcohol, Isopropyl myristate, Zink oxide: bad for the environment.
Colours not allowed on skin: Ci 19585:1, Ci 16850, Ci 45160, Ci 45174, Ci 74260 (around the eyes), Ci 77192
So now it is "just" comparing that to the ingredients in your products. Hope this is any help =)

That should help some LoneWolf, thank you.
I may also contact Snazaroo to see if they have anything to share on the matter... it's not anything absolutely necessary, I just know that the people who go to a place like that will be curious about that kind of thing and I'd like to be prepared, you know?

Re: This may sound like a weird question....
I'm just wondering if a producer will say: yes, our product contains ingredients that are considered bad for the environment, not safe to use around the eyes and have a risk of being hormone disturbing?
Re: This may sound like a weird question....
You mean... they might lie??? No way... we all know companies only care about humanity and the environment, they surely will disclose ALL risks...

Perry, PLEASE let us know what they say. I really want to hear who is the 'only one' and which one is kid safe, kid tested etc.

Re: This may sound like a weird question....
Babies silly!! I thought everyone knew that!
Snazaroo claims in the US to have the "Child Safety Rating" and say they are the only face paint to have it.

Yep, I believe that.....about the babies, And it's true about the Child Safety Rating......for the container.....that holds their paint. And I believe other fairy tales too!

Yes this topic interests me as I'm doing a Green Living fair soon. Don't really know what I'll say if I get questioned about it....

Re: This may sound like a weird question....
Ok, I emailed Snazaroo (since almost all of my paints are from there) and we'll see if they can tell me anything. Yes, the distrusting people might question how honest an answer you can get from the company itself, but I made sure to ask specifically: are the ingredients petrolium based? are they biodegradable? and made sure to say how I know that they are very safe for children and really appreciate that as a parent and as a clown... etc. As I said, this isn't something that I NEED to have, but I'd like to be able to impress the clientelle by being prepared for those types of questions. If I have to just have the ingredients list, then it'll have to do... most of it is emulsifiers and waxes, but even if some of the stuff isn't the most eco-friendly, they might be able to say that their manufacturing process is responsible in such a way or something... anything to impress on these parents that I care about that sort of thing.
I've already printed out some information about the eco-friendliness of latex balloons (which they are actually VERY eco-friendly, btw). http://www.qualatex.com/pages/facts.php

The place I am going to won't even allow balloons, either inflated or deflated, in anyway shape or form on their site.

Re: This may sound like a weird question....
Metina, Whatever would make you say that? It must be the musing about where Baby oil comes from, Yes????Metina wrote:I detect a bit of sarcasim here. I LOVE IT. RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!
Wouldn't it be great to know the real truth about people and products? On the other hand, DO we really want to know. It would be nice, that's for sure. We wouldn't have to try to read between the lines, or even see red flags when someone uses the words like 'only' or 'all'. And then again if someone says FDA APPROVED we would know that that exact formula was was tested and not just the ingredients used. But now I'm off on a tangent. So I have to get back to reality, get off the computer and ponder more on the Baby Oil. Shannon are you sure?

The CTSR was for the containers? Really? Even the ones that broke into a thousand shards at the touch of a feather? Hmmmm..... Suddendly my faith in the CTSR system is a bit shaken. []
Re: This may sound like a weird question....
My understanding that the CSR is on the PAINT not the container, the container is "Not safe for Children under 3"...
And I am sure about the baby oil... There is also "body oil" whose bodies do you think?
Food additives are made from petroleum...
Do you know the reason Aspartame was rushed through FDA approval so fast was because Donald Rumsfeld ownd the company that developed it? Heard that on a news program up here last week... Aspartame turns into formaldehyde in our bodies... in greater quantity than is allowed in our drinking water... wonder why it got approved??

Soooo... I should sue Donald for the aspartame poisoning I suffered a couple of years ago?
For your information, baby oil is derived from baby toe secretions. Body oil is derived from the secretions of hairy backed men (and women...but it's more expensive).
Re: This may sound like a weird question....
Ok, so you may all ROFL now.... here is the "official" answer from Gary:
"The paints are Eco friendly."
Gee thanks, that's sure to put those parents at ease.
