HAIR GEL REALLY WORKS!!!
OMG! So, when I first started, I made the common mistake of neglecting my brushes in water once or twice....and the result is a bent brush tip!
Well, I finally got around to trying to straighten them out with the hair gel-everyone keeps saying how they "heard it works" but never tried it themselves.
I tried it out, and it took a few minutes, but my brushes are straighter and pointier than ever!
I gave it a try on my other brushes that AREN'T bent, and they are even better too!
I'm thinking about making this a regular part of my brush cleaning routine, but just had to share the news if anybody is hesitating-IT WORKS!!!

Re: HAIR GEL REALLY WORKS!!!
Hmm, i have never heard of the hair gel tip.
Do you just jell them up after washing and leave it on or rinse it out?
Thanks :-)

Re: HAIR GEL REALLY WORKS!!!
I'd already washed and dried them out- I was actually about to throw them away-they've been sitting in my case for so long, totally useless.
I put the gel on while they were dry and shaped it with my fingers til it got really sticky and damp- but then magically it started to hold it's shape and stopped bending.
I let it harden for the night, rinsed it and recleaned with pink soap, and voila-brand new brush!

Re: HAIR GEL REALLY WORKS!!!
I'll try it on some of my older brushes that I am not sure what to do with... Thanks for sharing !
Re: HAIR GEL REALLY WORKS!!!
Thanks! I wonder if it would help shape some of my "cheaper" brushes. I'll have to try.

Re: HAIR GEL REALLY WORKS!!!
Instead of using gel every time you clean your brushes just put a bit of clean soap in them afterward and form the brush. The soap will dry hard enough to keep the brush in shape and will wash out in quickly.

I dunno if I'll have to do it every time I clean-so far the new shapes are holding up!

Re: HAIR GEL REALLY WORKS!!!
I have successfully used the boiling water method. I know it's said that this softens the glue inside the ferrule, etc., but I've found that a quick dip and swish in a pot of boiling water, followed by shaping the brush tip to a point and then laying it flat to dry, works very well. The brushes are not "like new" but they're definitely in much better shape for use. I've "saved" about 75% of my icky brushes like this.

Re: HAIR GEL REALLY WORKS!!!
not that long - about 10 seconds to swish in the pot, then i rinse in regular tap water, then i dip in for a fes seconds more and then re-shape. try it on one that you don't care about and see how you like ti.
