Finally got to do a belly painting!
My first one and the request was mind blowing to me: The mom is %100 Native American and the Dad is %100 Irish and so they wanted to combine native American Art and Celtic. Oh, and let's include the sonogram, too, if you could.....
It was tough to come up with, but in the end they were very pleased. I had my professional photographer there and she did an outdoor shoot on the farm. Can't wait to see those photos! (mine suck)

Wow Ronnie!!!! It's great!!! Awesome job!!! Everything is gorgeous, the feathers, the stitching on the top half, the clouds, and waterfall......
Re: Finally got to do a belly painting!
Wow, awesome!!! HA, it always amazes me how a mom can go from not being sure what she wants to being SO specific it's hard to fit it all in! I had one like that...super time consuming but always fun to see how a challenge turns out. I LOVE how you incorporated the sonogram too!!! Just awesome!

I think you nailed it, Rhonda! And the ultrasound hidden in the water is a really cool touch!

Re: Finally got to do a belly painting!
Thanks, guys! I put the sonogram in the water and added a waterfall to symbolize the baby will soon be "coming over the falls".... so to speak...

For those who don't belong to Face Book Baby Bump Addicts page;
There's a HORROR story behind this belly painting! This was done last Thursday and it was the hottest day of the year (until the next day came along anyway, which almost broke a record for hottest day in May for Central New York!) This design started out to be much more of an enchanted/mystical design.
BUT - and Miss Ronnie always has a big ol' BUT -
I made the mistake of taking my Mehron Barrier Spray out of my kit instead of my water spray bottle - they look almost identical, except the barrier spray has writing on it - I was using it to activate my paints! I didn't know it and can't believe that I couldn't smell it! I was a nervous Nellie and really started to feel nauseous because I couldn't get my paint to blend or spread very well. It was taking FOREVER!!!!!!! I kept thinking "Holy Cow, the humidity is so bad that my paints won't work!"
It being my first belly paint and the photographer was there - I wanted to crawl into a corner and hide! My confidence went out the window. It was a good thing that the photographer and Mother to be hit is off because it was a girls chatty party and that kept them busy while I was trying to paint but dying inside. I was way into my second HOUR when I finally noticed the bottle!!!!!!!!!!! This was a freaking nightmare! I couldn't rest my hand or pinkie anywhere without the paint lifting up. Needless to say, the mother had to get up a lot and move around and so this session took forever.
So, lesson learned - I came home and put bright colored duct tape on the barrier spray bottle so I'll never grab it by mistake again.

Re: Finally got to do a belly painting!
you did a great job! I get that too...you see all these 'simple' bellypaints people do, but when i get asked, they most of the time want elaborate designs! of and can you put this and this and this in there?
Re: Finally got to do a belly painting!
How do you go about deciding on what to charge on belly painting? I have no idea where to start on that. please help.

Totally awesome job, I wouldn't know where to start on a belly, and I think it would take me all day even if I wasn't using barrier spray !
