Crazy Belly art
My soon to pop pregnant friend let me practice on here a couple of times over the last week. Here is what I did today. I thought it was funny since she's ready to bust!

Re: Crazy Belly art
this is outrageous you do know this is now going to be attempted around the world, right?
Re: Crazy Belly art
Ha ha! I hope so! I figured someone has surely done this before but I haven't seen it so maybe I'm the first.
Kung fu baby, I love it! That's what I should name it.

That is just way to cool. I think that it is my favorite of all that I've ever seen, I just love it.
Good work

OH, I'd call it 'The Hatchling'. It's amazing! Love the egg shell patina....it's so soft but extremely effective! Poor mamma...she does look ready to be having that baby OUT! Made my tummy ache to remember!
Re: Crazy Belly art
Wow, that is an awesome Hatchling and looks like it should be on canvas! LOL, really brings back memories of how I felt the whole eighth month three times over when I couldnt wait to get it out, too!
How did you get the flesh tones and how long did it take to paint it??

Re: Crazy Belly art
Yes, The hatchling is perfect! I'll definitely use that.
It has struck quite a cord with many former preggers. I know I felt that way at the end (I was two weeks late with both my boys!)
Susan, to get flesh tones I used pink, white, brown, and light brown (mostly Snaz, some Wolf) To get the speckled finish on the egg I loaded up a 1" brush with super wet paint and flicked the bristles with my thumb to get a splatter paint effect. A toothbrush would have been easier but the brush worked just fine.
This one took 1.5 hours. The egg took the longest to build up layers and get good coverage. I did shading on the underside of the egg but realize now that I didn't need to do that since the natural shadows would have given the same effect. One of those things I never thought of with body art! I know now that I have to put a lot more thought into shadows and highlights so they work with the way the actual light falls on the body.
Thanks again for all of your awesome comments. I'm so excited to be a part of this forum!

Re: Crazy Belly art
Wow! Very effective. Most belly art that tries to paint the baby seems to creep me out, but yours is quite nice! Love it!
Re: Crazy Belly art
WOW!!! lOVE It - the Hatchling!!! busting right out of that egg!!!! Pow!!!
I haven't seen anything like it either but it really underscores the feeling of us mommas in the last weeks --- there is no room and something has gotta give!!!! Amazing skin tones and great concept - you are very talented!!!

Re: Crazy Belly art
Thank you everyone! Acutally those aren't blood stains. It's a speckled egg. But I can see that it does look a bit like that!
Re: Crazy Belly art
