Re: Starblend Essentials?
My new favorite is the Oriental. Let me make a collage with the designs I've made using it. Great for animals...I consider it an essential now.
Re: Starblend Essentials?
Ok I definitely need the Oriental! I just hope I can do 1/2 as much as you do with them... Can you list all the colors in order of priority? That would really help me decide. Thanks Denise, you are always so helpful. Btw your monkey video had me and my 4yr old son cracking up! Please share that link Denise, I'm having trouble finding it again.
Popular Starblend designs
Well, I can tell you what has been most popular off of my design boards. I do almost all of my full faces with Starblends but here's what's cool...what you put on your boards is what colors to buy.
White, black and red are my most used because skull (#1), spidey (#2) and pirates (#3) Hello Kitty (#4) are very popular. I hate the color blue, but it's my next most used color for blue leopard and swan I have on my boards and Capt. America. After that you have orange and yellow for batman sunsets and traditional tigers. You can do Ironman now with yellow and red. Pandas are next but you have white and black, zebras, bunnies and kitties but I like using pink now for quick kitties. Pink is also good for cheeks an inside of ears and Princess crowns like Marcela does. I now have that piggy design so I'll be using pink more I think.
Another color I hate so I mixed it half and half with yellow is the green. It covers a lot better mixed like this. What I was doing before is using the dark green but then using a lime green and making the child scrunch up and sponging the lime green over the top to make wrinkles or sponging a BAM for snakes...but basically, I've only been using green for HULK.
THIS YEAR, I'm going to try an incorporate the Oriental as my cheetah, and maybe a purple leopard so I can use that color more but I'll have to fix it with white to get better coverage. I want to put the chimpanzee on my board and a gorilla with Monster Grey and Lt. Gray...a lot of people thought my skull was a gorilla because it looked a little gray...so I'm going to make one for real. I LOVE my new piggy so I'm going to add that. I think I'll put up a cute bear because that was requested a few times and would be cute on a boy or girl. I'll probably add a cow too...did you see that design? Love it. I think I'm going to move to a Lt. Cocoa and white bull dog and then a black and white dalmation....I didn't like my brown puppy...I think a bull dog would look more cartoony.
Lots of ideas and my big fair is coming. Can you tell I'm getting excited to come up with new boards and designs?

Re: Starblend Essentials?
You sound excited Denise.......you are by far the best starblends painter that I have seen.......in answer to this post I have red, white, yellow, black, green and orange....my white is the only one that I have which has reached the bottom so i'm going to have to replace that soon......now I want some oriental starblends.....sigh.....I guess it's a good thing that the closes fp shop is a plane ride away from me ore else I would have no money!
Re: Starblend Essentials?
Save your half used White and when the other one is half done you can repress them into a new cake. Or the cool thing I did to pare down my kit was repot them in those small black watercolor pots from my Silly Farm Wonder Palette (I think Wolfe uses them too.) Here's a photo of my smaller kit. You can see the Starblend little circles with the lids. The kit has been great for the 4 parties I've done so far with it:
Re: Starblend Essentials?
I am like newborn new to starblends but 1 have 9 colors at present, Red, Black, White, Yellow, Green, Orange, Pink, Blue, and Oriental. I have yet to use Oriental, but I think I will try to use it for the cheetah. I do not think I will ever let Red, black, or white to run out. I am loving yellow and orange as well but wish the blue were a little more opaque, same wit the green.
Re: Starblend Essentials?
I only have the black and white, and I really only use the white for my puppy... I should get more use out of them.
Re: Starblend Essentials?
BekahCat, a skull was my most popular design last year and it uses black and white. It was requested more than spiderman. This photo is the pirate version but I basically black out the upper eyelid at a 45 degree, put white around the eyes, bump in the middle and on the lip (have them hold their breath) and then black lines. It's quick and boys love it. Panda can also be done with those colors.
Re: Starblend Essentials?
I have white, moonlight white, blue, ebony, soft peach, and light Egypt. I have really liked most of the tutorials and painting idea videos I have found on youtube, but playing with my new starblends, I can't get stuff to look close to anything I see on youtube. I have not attempted to use the white on top of paint, but on its own it is rather translucent.

Russet, I think you got the worst colors (except white) blue is a hard color, I usually have to use glycerin with it to make it a nice even coverage. Even white is kind of a light coverage but it's so much better for full face white paint for skulls and such.
But with those colors you should be able to do bulldog, vampire (moonlight white), capt. america, giraffe, bear...can you take a photo so I can give you more ideas?
I don't know if you want to buy more but it sounds like you need the right designs for the right colors.

Re: Starblend Essentials?
I was reading other threads, and I think it might also be Alaska is cold and dry so I was trying to use powders on a base they could not stick to, my skin is more on the dry end than oily spectrum. I turned to playing with it as eye make-up. Yeah I know these colors are not that useful for face painting, mostly got some of them for use when doing cosplay crossplay. Blue was just an impulse buy, it is my favorite color, so I try and buy almost everything in blue at least one or 20 shades, then remind myself the rest of the world likes pinks, and purples ect...

Re: Starblend Essentials?
Try the glycerin, it really does work and it's so light. Not like oil or even lotion. It just acts as a primer, I should probably start using it for eyeshadow.
Face Paintng With Starblends
For me, I MUST have Yellow, Pink, Orange, White, Black. I like to also have Blue and Purple.
This Tiger is based all is Starblends.
