glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
I want to order a glitter tat setup during this next week. what do I need besides these essentials?
this is what I plan to buy;
-stencils w/ posters (Hoping to get suzysparkles leftovers from the swap area)
-the 30 glitter palette
-glue
-alcohol pads
I also want to get the nightclub kit w/ the neon glitters
what I am wondering about;
-what is the best adhesive?
-best applicator? (Pipettes?)
-which brushes work best with the glitter palette or are poofer bottles better?
is the glitter palette an ok buy for $85 or is there a better way of going about it?

Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
I like the glue from http://www.signatureglitter.com/page1 and it comes in a nice little tube that you can rub on the glitter tattoo...
Well, how about this. When I get home in a hour I will make you a video on doing glitter tattoos and I will show you both poofing and the brush way, and hopefully that will help you... I am better at visually seeing things than reading them... hopefully that will help you out more.
I will try to keep the sound effects to a minimum!!
Til then... dont buy that $85 glitter palette... GIANT WASTE OF MONEY!

ohhh awesome!
and good to know on the glitter palette. do you think the poofers and buying in bulk are more economical? (seems like the way to go)

Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
I like applying the glitter w/ a brush. It's more accurate & you waste less glitter. The poofers tend to clog on some colors & they waste a lot of glitter. I like to free hand paint my designs. I have 3 brushes; 1 for glitter, one for painting(or I'll use the "nail polish" bottle w/ glue in it, and a big blush brush for removing the excess glitter. You'll need something to catch your loose glitter. I work over a cookie sheet(one w/ edges). This keeps the glitter from getting everywhere.

Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
I agree, Signature Glitter has the best deal on a professional glitter set designed by pros! When you price it all out, Jody's kit is the most economical in the long run. Her kit will get me four times what I spent for it selling tats for five bucks each at a festival. Her stencils are in packs of ten, which is nice because when one kid gets a design, they all want the same. Many "kits" come with one design of each stencil.
The small packets of alcohol wipes are such time wasters. I prefer the spray bottle and small cosmetic pads. It keeps the smell at a minimum and used pads go into a ziploc baggie.
The big two ounce poofers are quick & easy, esp on the hands with the larger size that doesnt cramp the hand after hours of tatting like the smaller ones will. If you gently tap the poofer, you can control how much glitter comes out for accurate color placement. Humidity will affect the flow of the glitter and it should not be left in the car, subject to wide temperature & humidity swings. Cold really affects the glue, which is why its not shipped up north during the winter.
As for using craft glitter, Gary Cole summed it up best when he said most kids wind up sleeping with arms across the face which is why I only use the safe signature glitter, should it get in their eyes.
I found a zip up jewelry roll that holds 150 stencils. Most use the standard jewelry roll the kit is sitting on but found that if you don't fold it up right, stencils fall out, usually at the most inconvient time.
I put each my stencils on the copying machine and laminated it as a double sided display. It all fits in a small cosmetic case.
Jody at www.SignatureGlitter.com has above and beyond customer service!
Cheers,
Susan

Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
I've never seen it, but from the look of the size of the brush to the size of the pallet it looks like a small quantity of glitter.
Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
That would be good for something small but I would worry about them all being open. If the wind picked up it would go flying!

And I agree. Jody will cut you special stencils too....just send her a picture and she will do it.
I did the epilepsy walk last year and ordered the logo stencils from her. It made a huge impression on the client and this year they asked for a second glitter art person. Thanks in part to Jody and her customer service, they hired me again. I was amazed when they asked if we could offer the logo again this year.
And she has the best starter kit that I have seen anywhere.

Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
I thought I might add that when you open the tips of the poof bottles don't cut them, use a pin. the hole for the bottles that you are using the opaque glitter for stencils should be made with a pin that is bigger, like a push pin. try it and if it's not big enough, enlarge the hole by rocking and rolling the pin in the hole until it is. When is big enough??? Big enough is when the glitter comes out faster then a poof....it almost pours out..with the slightest of a squeeze to the bottle. Keeping in mind that this is for your glitter art, not for poofing your iridescent glitters on your face painting. Face paint poofing requires a hole is smaller so that it doesn't pour, and must be poofed.
Did I explain this pooffing and pouring clearly, or should I try again?

Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
I have never used the brush to put them on- I got those "special" ones from the glimmer art place and I have no idea how to use them...I may sound stupid by admitting that here but they have this stiff stuff on them- is that supposed to be there?? lol
I do the poof but it wastes a lot

Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
I'm not sure about the "stiff stuff" but some brushes come w/ a dried "gel" on them to keep their shape.
Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
maybe thats what it is...lol...is it supposed to come off???
Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
Wet the brush. It should rinse off & become softer. Let it dry before you stick it in your glitter
Re: glitter tat setup- what are the essentials?
I'll try to make a video of my set-up as well.
I use a bead container from Michaels. The containers are deeper so it helps with fly-away glitters.
I get my glitter and supplies from Amerikan body art.
Umm.. oh and I'm a brush girl as well. I tried the poofing but like others have said - it cloggs and goes everywhere.. very wasteful I think.

Most brushes come with stiff sizing on the bristles to protect them during shipping. It washes rite out in the first few swishes in water.
