I have too many flat brushes and hardly any angled ones! Is there any reason I can't soak these babies in hair gel, let 'em dry, and cut them at an angle? Will they work the same as the ones that start out angled?

You could try BUT you may wind up with brushes that have uneven thickness at the ends that way. Think that Denise did a youtube on turning them into rake brushes.

You can make shaped brushes, yes. Mini butterfly wings, chevrons, etc.

Depends on the quality of the fibres and the thickness of the loofe how well they will turn out.

I tried to make a long bristled 1" wash shorter and it was a big mess. They do something cool to taper the ends to a point so when I cut it, it looked like it got a bad bowl hair cut. I wonder if I could take a hair cutting razor to one. I just got some new blades. Hmmm.

Yeah Denise, you hit on what I was referring to. I tried to shorten one about a year ago but lost the taper on the end as well.

you can, I used to do it with my brushes for canvas and murals, just lay your scissors at an angle two ways, if that makes sense, and they have to be super sharp, I used my haircutting scissors. you can also use a razor blade, be very careful, I would practice on a throw away brush first. you should also hold the fibers very steady and tight, good luck

I made double Filberts from my small flats. Also made a Filbert with three in a brush. Work well.

It was the first try of cutting brushes. The brushes are very cheap ones, but it turns out good, I think.

Wow. I have a double Gilbert I love, I may have to dig in my old brushes to find one suitable to try to make a triple.

Wow, gotta try this! Could totally make a tiara for a toddler in only 20 seconds with 3 tear drops at once.

Also, you could do a real quick checker board with  that.

I am a hairdresser; if you just cut a flat brush, it will never be precise because the  bristles are too thick, even with sharp sharp shears. I like the idea that the others gave you
