Daytime/weekday jobs Empty Daytime/weekday jobs

Post by embalmer217 Thu Mar 14, 2013 2:11 pm

I'm new to this and I'm looking to do some jobs that don't take up too much family time (weekends). What kind of jobs can I work during the day on weekdays or at night for kids parties? I was thinking maybe school/daycare events or parties in the evening? I'm not really sure what opportunities there are. I know most kids parties are on weekends but just trying to see what else I may be missing. Thanks.

Dear embalmer217:
What part of the earth do you live in?
I live in the wilds of Canada in a tiny town called Toronto.

There isn't all that much weekday work, or weeknights for that matter. This industry is concentrated on weekends and holidays.

Camps during the summer may choose to bring in a face painter, and yes, I've done a few gigs for daycare which have up to age 5 or 6. However, the vast majority of my events are Fri-Sun. If you wanted to target adults, it might be easier to find evening gigs around holidays.

With summer coming up, you might be able to find an amusement park job with weekday hours.

My suggestion if you want family time home-school & work weekends as some of us do...(You'd be surprised at how wonderful family outings are when everybody else isn't there-- Monday to Friday!)

The VAST majority of what we do in this business is weekends. that is the reality Very Happy In the summer you might be able to get some jobs at summer camps. What we do is entertainment, for the MOST part ( not always ) people have parties on weekends.
You have to think long and hard about jumping into an industry like this. There is pluses and minus( well like anything really Very Happy ) It is not for everyone. It has worked well for me, BUT there have been times I have missed out things with friends and family because I had a gig.My business started really getting busier once my kids were older, so it was a little easier.

I know it sounds crazy but most of my work right now is weekdays. 3 gigs this week, Monday, Tuesday and Friday night. Corporate gig, restaurant gig and birthday party. It just happens to fall this way I have no idea why.

Restaurant gigs? Also, in Belgium schools are closed on wednesday afternoon and people often have Bday parties that day.

I did get an inquiry last night from a woman who wanted to hire me to paint at her son's school next Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. - to paint his class for his birthday.

So I suppose there are some opportunities but this is not the norm.

(BTW I turned her down - 1. I have a fulltime dayjob, 2. I have a two hour minimum.)

I love in NY (Long Island). Thank you all for your replies. I've gotten some good ideas from all of you. I never thought of camps. THat's a great idea. I'll see how it goes. :-)
