What do you feel is the best way to market yourself starting out. How do you get jobs for company events, at a bar for St. Patties or at birthday parties. I have some ideas but would rather work with what works and has been tested by others. I'm just doing hair tinsel and glitter tattoos. Question

I started by putting flyers up at community boards throughout town. I put flyers up at local supermarkets, at Starbucks, the Little Gym, etc. Also doing a few fundraisers help because they help put your name out there when they are advertising for their cause. Sending e-mails and cold calls to the YMCA and local restaurants that have family nights or kids nights help.

Are you doing face painting?

Cold calls or even emails help. I emailed the local children's museum and just said something like "Hey, I'm new to the business and available for hire for any of your events. I'll even do the first one free so you can get to know me and my work. " It has led to me being hired for more events there and other events through the employees there. I'm thinking of giving my post card to my daughter's classmate's dad who is part owner and manager of the local Chili's restaurant.

I agree that you should volunteer at a couple of events to get your name out there. Put "Removal Instructions" on the back of your business card and hand it to each person. I did a couple of friends' kid birthday parties free (it was my gift to the kid) as well.

I have two birthday parties booked for free to get started. I was thinking of trying to get into one of the Irish Pubs for St. Patties. I guess the only way to do that is call and see. How much does one charge per hour or do you do PPF and then give the establishment money? Seems like one should get paid for their work.
