What Supplies Do I Get? HELP!!
Hi Everyone. I'm Sydney from Two Monkees Designs and i am currently 15 years old, i was interested in finding out what materials do you need to create gore and preferably any home recipes that a cheap to make because as i previously stated, i am 15 and the country i come from probably wont have specialized stuff and to bring stuff in costs a ton of money which i do not have at the moment due to my young age and lack of financial independence. SO if any of you amazing artists can help please feel free to send me a private message here or to email me at
twomonkeesdesigns@gmail.com
Thanks a bunch,
Two Monkees Designs.

Re: My Very First Gore!
Dear Two Monkees Design:
There are a lot of YouTube Videos out there.
I use 1 ply of tissue paper, latex (or you can purchase latex based eyelash glue. This is a small amount, and a small investment that is available at most cosmetic shops). Look at the colors online available for a "Bruise Wheel" or "Burn Wheel" and see if you can match colors. It may be more inexpensive to purchase one of those wheels and pay the shipping rather than buy colors individually.
What country are you from?

Re: My Very First Gore!
Can I just add to what The Great And Legendary Fesspenter said, to clarify: if you go the latex route DON'T use cheap craft latex. Use cosmetic-grade in all things.
Craft and cosmetic latex have the same ingredients, but craft latex contains a higher percentage of ammonia, which is used to keep the rubber in liquid form and evaporates once it's applied. You need the lower-ammonia, cosmetic/FX version of latex.
Obviously anything labelled as eyelash glue will already be cosmetic grade. If I seem a bit pointed about this matter, it's because I've seen so many Live Action Role Players get irritation and other skin reactions from using on their faces or arms the same (non-cosmetic grade) stuff they use to make prosthetics and fantasy weapons.
As TGAL Fesspenter said, there are tutorials online for making this stuff from household ingredients. Many of the recipes use a mixture of baking gelatine and glycerine to make a gel skin, which can then be used for zombie, burn or other effects. I use derma wax for wound effects, and as a little goes a long way you might find it more affordable than you think. Good luck with your projects!
Thanks for the great words, everyone. I'm enjoying the SF/X stuff a lot.

Re: My Very First Gore!
Please don't puff up Fessy's head too much now... She will not be able to paint with a gigantic head.
Re: My Very First Gore!
Ooooooooooh!!!
If I had a big giant head, it would be ever so much easier to paint upon my face.
According to my family,
I am neither Great or
Legendary.
I am a Big Goofball.
That is okay with me.
I have replaced my family with the practice head.
I am going to go have a coffee with "Teenage".
Teenage Head is driving.
xoxo

Re: My Very First Gore!
You are not alone, Fessy... Big Goofball of my family, too! My Mom calls me "The Female Peter Pan" (who is too heavy to fly anymore, no matter how many happy thoughts I think of or how much fairy dust I'm covered in) since I will never grow up.
Re: My Very First Gore!
You really are naturally talented in the gore stuff. Those last two especially are fabulous....yuck.
Re: My Very First Gore!
Loving the cut thumb/hand, and that burn is fantastic. Great job. Now, I'm off to look into this derma wax stuff (like I need MORE supplies, yeah right...lol)

Re: My Very First Gore!
Kammy that is awesome!! I can't believe how good you are in such a short time. Must be in your blood........
Re: My Very First Gore!
Bingo. I used single ply tissue ripped into small, uneven-edged pieces - though a couple of them are too even and I'll be more patient about that bit in future. I used Kryolan latex as I heard it's one of the least stinky. They're all stinky though! I hadn't used pure latex milk on myself before so I did a patch test a while before I did this.Coral3 wrote:Can I ask what products you used for the burn? Is that toilet paper & latex??
Otherwise it's just fake blood (three types, actually, and next time I might try some congealed too!), a few colours of face paint and some messing about with wax forming tools. I have a realllllly nasty idea for the next one I do, as I want to mock up some exposed subcutaneous fat, but make it stable when I move like this was.
Thanks to everyone for all the encouragement! And Denise - given that I have a style crush on your work, you made my day by telling me I'm naturally talented at this.
Today I'll actually be, y'know, FACE PAINTING! Got to get ready for the competition in May and I'm already completely at a loss on how to get the effect I want to get. Lots of playtime needed.

This is very helpful. I am from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. So not many specialist supplies.

Re: My Very First Gore!
when i did my stuff.. i got playing a bunch of ways.. for the boils, i just took a hunk of clay.. Play dough would prob do fine. Used the end of one some of my bigger brush and just poke a hole in the clay.. not too deep
Filled the holes with liquid latex and let them dry.. Tada.. boils
i did the same for cuts.. just sculpt it into the clay to make a mold and pour in the latex.
Scabby things i latex glued paper towel down and used that wax to cover the edges and blend it out
For most of the colouring i used and airbrush tho

Re: My Very First Gore!
I'm seriously blushing now, and (blame the hormones) got all weepy at your words! Thank you so much, I really don't see myself that way. I just try hard and do as well as I can. Practising for a contest earlier, I looked a TOTAL MESS. If I'd posted my practice, you would seriously not describe me as talented.ladysinaz wrote:Denise Cold wrote:You really are naturally talented in the gore stuff. Thank you, and to Paola too. You're both so kind.

Could you please leave the judging to us, sweet Kammy?
We're much better in doing that than you are.....
