My Very First Gore!
So, I've painted zombies and things before, but wanted to experiment a little with basic SFX. I was at a jam today and grabbed some supplies, and this is my first attempt. It's not great, but it has potential and I'm looking forward to lots more nasty wounds in future!
Funniest sight of the day - a teenaged boy painted as an uber-cute bunny rabbit, limping around and acting in agony, with zombie-bite-style wounds all over his arms. Worst case of rabid zombie myxomatosis I've ever seen.

Re: My Very First Gore!
You had better cover that wound before you go out face painting.

Re: My Very First Gore!
Thanks, you two! I had fun, and after the tutorial I ended up buying the stuff I needed to recreate this sort of effect.....only to get home and find that my blood gel isn't there! Wahhhhh! I have the derma wax, blood paste and other bits, but I really wanted the gel too as it's between paste and cake blood for consistency.
Sniffle. Must've dropped out of my bag on the train or something. Sniffle.
A Deeply Heartbroken Kammy xx

Re: My Very First Gore!
Hey Kammy! I looked at it long enough to know you are too GOOD at it!
I just am horrible in dealing with gore....I had a c-section with my twins and the honest truth is I could NOT look at that part of my body for SIX MONTHS it so freaked me out. I would never make it as a nurse...or during a Zombie Apocalypse.
So I have to "admire" your (Erica's, etc) gore with a VERY QUICK glance.

Re: My Very First Gore!
Dear Valerie A:
Your body did an amazing thing.
If you could have your flat smooth belly, and no twins,
or a squishy belly and the twins, I betcha I know which ones you would choose. Besides, you cannot put the twins back.
I like my squishy belly.

Lisa,
Definitely glad to have the 'babies'--tho during the teen years I thought about 'sending them back where they came from' a few times (after compacting them of course!) But they are great people now.
As for squishy belly, I breastfeed them until they weaned themselves at 1 1/2 ( ) and my belly was wonderful...just had to say that...becos those days are done!! and there's no more "bragging" to be done about that!!! Middle age put an end to the flat belly! and now in my 'old age' my whole body's really 'gone to seed!' getting my come'upance that's for sure!
(sorry, Kammy, don't mean to be doing any hijacking )
Now, back to gore.....

Re: My Very First Gore!
You can hijack about the wonders of the female body and the miracle of birth as much as you like, my dear Valerie and Lisa. Lisa's entirely right....I hated my body (I even had an eating disorder for 12 years which had to be treated at the hospital), but after I gave birth, despite the changes in my body and the fact that it got bigger, I'm much more at peace with it.
My body made my baby. My body, frankly, rocks. And Valerie - you had a c-section for twins AND you breastfed them. You're a freakin' warrior woman and I admire you! xx

Re: My Very First Gore!
Thank you Kammy. Children are such a gift. I never slept for more than 2 hours at a stretch for probably a year and it wore me to the bone, but I NEVER regretted it! Twins have to share so much, at least I had that time with them, individually...and sometimes together. And, as a bonus, the pounds just melted off.

Re: My Very First Gore!
Oh, that's so great of her!!
In 2011 I attended a class of Nicole Heydenrijk at Superstar Oostenhout. I bought paints and also a bottle of fake blood. Forgot the bottle and they send me a new one too!!

Somehow I missed this when reading earlier. Thank you so much, Martha - given your background, that means a lot.martha wrote:Nice job Kammy! (coming from an OR nurse - nicely realistic)

Now ..??? YOU tell me..??? what??? part of it???? IS NOT great???? lol . look super great to me!
Re: My Very First Gore!
Thanks Monna! I think I'm being hard on myself, looking at this again. It's definitely not bad for a first try. I've been doing gory things to my hand and inner arm ever since....though have discovered it's best NOT to work on my outer arm. Derma Wax seems to work just as well as leg wax, removing those tiny wee arm hairs with a disproportionate amount of pain!

Re: My Very First Gore!
A couple more bits I've done since Monday's first try. The first is meant to represent a clean stab wound, the second is....well, a slit wrist, basically. Hope it doesn't offend anyone!

Re: My Very First Gore!
no but if gong to kill ones self..the cut is up and down...lol... looks fantastic!!! can't wait to learn some of this in May in Florida!!!
Re: My Very First Gore!
I did an up->down one too. Who'd have thought it was this much fun making myself look like a seriously wounded victim???
I just spent most of this month's "treat money" on latex, 3D gel, barrier spray and film blood. I think that makes me addicted.
Monna - have you never done SFX before? I just did a tiny introductory mini-workshop on Monday, and it's soooo much fun. xx
