Where do you get your costumes from?!
Hi all,
I need a fairy costume. Where do you all get your costumes from? I'm in Australia so am particularly interested in any recs for any places here. I can't seem to find anywhere online that does fairy costumes that aren't super short!
Thanks

Rubies Costume Company has a few longer ones (about to the knee), you might find some on

You could easily turn this into a fairy costume by adding wings. Just close up the slits a little:

Re: Where do you get your costumes from?!
smiffy has other costumes that could double as a fairy costume too.
You could also "lengthen" any short skirted costume with a coloured longer petticoat underneath.
since all those fairies work with layers this should work.

Re: Where do you get your costumes from?!
I watched some GOTH skirt tutorials on youtube--they take tulle (sp?) from the craft stores and make great skirts out of it.
Not sure if you have thrift stores, 2nd hand stores, where you live--but I keep an eye on those too---They had a great "fairy"dress in the other day (looked like an old Prom dress--do you guys have prom?) anyway---it was all puffy and so pretty--but about 2 sizes to small--I thought of cutting it up and making it work, but decided against it.

Re: Where do you get your costumes from?!
Hi Onefirefly!
I was in the same situation as you - all the fairy costumes I found were either kids or 'sexy fairies' lol. I ended up buying a really pretty skirt from Tree of Life for $20 - it was two layers with swirly floral patterns and two different shades of silky purple material, and then I wore a plain black singlet top, some sparkly ballet flats (which were my wedding shoes lol) and I bought a purple glittery set of fairy wings from a discount shop for $8. Ooh and the best part was I bought a rosebud and vine sort of hair band garland thing from one of those little stalls in the middle of a shopping centre selling hair accessories and jewellery. That was $6. So all up it was $34. I was stoked, and straight away it was 'tell the fairy what you would like', 'look at the pretty fairy', 'wave goodbye to the fairy, she's flying home now!' I loved it!
Hope that helps xx

Buy prom dress from thrift store.

And make a tiara with silk flowers and ribbons. Also add these same flowers and ribbons to the center of the wings and voila! Cut a the thrift-ed prom dress hem into raggedy edges or into a petal pattern. Look at this dress from buycostumes.com: http://www.buycostumes.com/Enchanted-Faerie-Elite-Adult-Costume/800110/ProductDetail.aspx?evar3=HorizontalProductRecommendationsMelodyFPL wrote:Buy prom dress from thrift store.
