My favourite holiday is Halloween. My husband has said for years, I am a witch (he does not say it during a fight though). So when I received the following information, well.... I was horrified! What do you think?

Here is the link to the online petition against changing Halloween's date

I am against changing the date of Halloween.

Huh? Halloween is an observance not a statutory holiday... why on earth would someone want to change it???

Let us change all the days then. Christmas, New Year, easter and so on. And then have no Holidays on week days. From a practical perspective I can see the point, but it would be as likely as if we decided that we only celebrated our birthdays in the weekends only.
I think we instead should start by stopping that summer time concept!

Proposed by a company that sees the best way to make money is to have it's mainstay on the weekend always.

I actually prefer it to fall on a weekday! Then, the clubs have parties the weekend BEFORE and the weekend AFTER and private parties all week... when it falls on a weekend, everyone just has their parties on the day!!

I totally agree with Shannon. I love to drag out this holiday and WE benefit from it being on days other than Saturday.

Thanks for your support. I also emailed my congress representative to vent a bit more.

Yes to observing Halloween during the week. Like many have said, I tend to make more money when it gets stretched out as well.

I wouldn't get too worried about it, it's not going to pass. It's based on All Hallows Eve, which was observed LONG before the Halloween as we know it, and they are not going to change a date a spiritual observance even if it is drastically different than what it started out as. Congress has bigger things to worry about than people getting to party on the day they want to...

You're talking about the US Congress... right? They've made some pretty bizarre decisions in their time... so I've heard. Proposed Permanent Saturday Halloweens Petition to U.S. Congress Icon_lol

Haha! Well Shannon ya got me there...all I can say is in that case (if those bizarre decision makers are at the wheel) it could go either way. They can take the time out of their busy days, bypassing mental health parity laws, budget amendments, etc, and try to keep a straight face while changing the date of a holiday based on a religious day of observation...OR they can go the traditional route and (DESPITE the law of separation of church and state) do what they tend to do and base their decision on the fact that the majority of those decision-makers are Christian (All Hallows Eve has Christian/Celtic roots, and our government does have a history of "forgetting" about that separation law...

Us zany Yanks and our kooky lawmakers... sigh.

You never know just what they'll grab on to to divert attention from the more pressing issues.

Thanks for keeping an eye on 'em.
