Hockey Goalie Mask
I am painting one on this week for a hockey nut. Does anyone know of other examples that have been done. I have found alot of football helmets... but not hockey. I'm not looking for the scary "Jason Friday the 13th" look but the actual real goalie masks. Has anyone come across a good picture example, or has anyone done one?
Thanks
Thanks

The new masks... those airbrushed works of art would be a real challenge to paint realistcally... and you'd need a baldy too!
The old style "Jason" type are easier...

yes... that type of mask would be alot easier. But alas its not what he wants... he is bald but unfortunity ...He wants all that detail and mask.
I drew up some sketches... so we will see. I'm excited about it because I havn't seen anything like it yet... and scared to death... Because I havn't seen anything like it
Its thursday, so pending I don't bomb it ... I will post a picture.

Have you googled hockey masks? I remember looking up on the NHL once and they do have a gallery of the different goalie masks and art on them.

Yes, that's how I found out what the design was. It's Goalie Chris Mason. Actually I think he's a fellow Canadian of yours He's now our Goalie for the St. Louis Blues team. Their opening game is Thursday... so it's one of his huge fans.
Do you have any advice when it comes to shading trompe le ole on the face. Is it best to use brown or black for the shadow effects?
Thanks Shannon!

Re: Hockey Goalie Mask
I found making a wash of red, blue, yellow with a touch of black - really watery same as for a watercolour wash - works really well. Basically put a couple drops of water on a lid, then touch the brush to the different colours... after putting in the black I had to add more yellow to get it more "brown" than "black"...
Or, you can use powder - dark brown eyeshadow on a sponge tipped applicator or a tight brush (like a lipliner or small angle)...
Both are then blotted or softened with a q-tip or dry brush to remove the excess
