What's that thing on your face?!
I get this question almost every gig... My left eyebrow is pierced and kids always ask what it is. I usually just say it's jewellery but I wonder if that encourages them to want one? I'd hate to give a bad impression, so should I take it out before gigs? I really don't want to, it's quite a pain.
Do you have facial piercings and do you take them out for gigs?

Re: What's that thing on your face?!
I would leave it in and just keep saying it's jewelry. Fyi- that's my answer as a Mom, not fp'r!
Quick funny- I was doing glitter tats at a party and one didn't turn out right. I told the little girl -about 8- that I had "screwed up" and needed to fix it. EVERY girl in line gasped in horror and told me I had said a bad word! Lol!

don't take it out... unless you've got a REALLY pretty, sparkly one to replace it with, then they'll know it's bling
And don't worry about impressions, I have a tattoo on my arm that is plainly visible while I'm clowning. No one has ever had a problem with it. Granted, it's a tattoo of my medical alert information, but it IS a tattoo.

I don't have one on my face but I have an industrial in my ear and normally I don't get questions because no one notices unless I turn to my left, but when they do it's a million questions!
It's never anything bad though and parents usually don't notice or don't care. I wouldn't take your piercing out. Kids forget, I feel within 24 hrs they won't even remember lol

I would just leave it there. Kids are curious, it's normal they ask questions if they see something they are not used seeing. They will eventually see other people with piercing, so take if you're educating them. And your answer is really nice, too. It IS jewelry and it's easy for them to understand.
Re: What's that thing on your face?!
For the most part I can cover it pretty well with paint but I'm not painting full faces on myself for gigs anymore. I've added a princess character to my services so I'll probably take it out for those since they're paying $30 extra per hour
Re: What's that thing on your face?!
I. Wouldn't worry about it, kids just like to ask questions....
I have pink and purple highlights in my hair, kids give a lot of remarks on it...
'You have pink hair!'
''Yes i do, do you like it?''
'A little bit.... were you born with pink hair?'
And so on....
I also have a tattoo on my foot and ankle, so in the summer they see it... some love tattoos, and want me to paint my tattoo in their foot and ankle :p
Never heard a remark from parents about my hair or tattoo, so no worries about it!

Re: What's that thing on your face?!
get a clear one... I have a tattoo behind my left ear so it's visible to the line and since I am in AZ My hair (which is in dreadlocks) is always pulled back into a pony tail... As long as tattoos are offensive and you look polished and look and act professional it should not matter. I have a photo of me on my site that is current so people know what I look like and feel they can trust me. I have had a client book me and tell me the reason she picked me over a couple other artists I know is because I had photos of myself on my site. The other artists had not photos and the client didn't feel comfortable not knowing what they looked like.

Hey izzy, I just tried to check your site but I got a page saying you've moved. Could you post the new link? I love checking others sites.

WOW I can't believe I hadn't updated it... it's www.faces-in-disguise.com
Re: What's that thing on your face?!
I have a nose ring that I either replace with a stud or take out completely, but that's because I wear an open-ended ring that I can just take right out without needing to bother with captive or screw-on beads. I have forgotten to take it out before and no one treats me any differently. I also have a visible tattoo and pink hair, but the key is your attitude, and making sure you're presentable. I do cute, normal-looking makeup and make sure my clothes are clean.
I also used to have a lip ring, and when kids would ask what it was I would say it's a lip ring, if they were still confused I said "You know how people have earrings? Well it's kind of like that but for your lip." And then get them away from the "what IS it" subject by just asking if they like it. Sometimes if they looked ambivalent still I'd say "It's kinda weird, huh? It's okay if you don't like it!"
