Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
Has anyone tried out SF's "Color Rub"? It's a product that you rub directly onto your hair and the colour apparently lasts for a week!
I'm interested in it for myself, because I really miss dyeing my hair... and I really love the rainbow effect you can achieve by using a few colours.
I think I'll order one or two to test out... if anyone else has tried them yet, I'd love to hear your results!

Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
Heather had it in her last live class for FABA tv. like Suzy said - its hair chalk. You can look up videos of hair chalking on you tube. You use artist chalk (don't get the oil chalk kind) but it does wash out immediately. The "color rub" that Heather used did seem to work a little better than the chalk I have from Micheals (it showed up well on her dark hair)

I just rubbed FAB paint in my hair yesterday. It washed out just fine.

This is all you need from Michaels. Its under 10 bucks. Last week I put some red in hair.

Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
It wont stay in if you wash your hair of course. I dont really know how long the chalk would stay on. The FAB red stayed in for two days cause I didnt wash my hair. I was actually worried about the paint, but it came right out.

http://www.hairflairs.com/content/color-rub-directions
Here is a link to Hair Flairs chalk with the directions for use. I didn't see anything about the product lasting for 7 days? I suppose in theory in will last till you wash your hair. I dont think I could go that long without washing my hair!
Does anyone know where the information about the product lasting that long came from?

Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
I have used the pastel chalk and it takes quite a bit of effort to get the color transfer. Really did a number on my split ends!
I just ordered the entire line of SF Color Rubs yesterday.
I'll let you guys know what I think.

Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
Miss ronnie will you please post some photos? Do you mind if I ask what your going to do with them? I thought about adding hair chalking to my booth, but dont know.
Ya, when I put the chalk in, I kinda scratched up the surface a bit. The FAB paint is kinda soft so that when on real easy.

I remember there was a thread about this before and the conclusion was the it would not be a good seller I think. I would be interested to know the reviews too!

Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
Laurie, I just saw a video with Heather Green applying it, and she said it'll last for a week (or longer if you heat-seal it). It looks like it might be different from just artist's chalk... but who knows!

She applies and talks about it near the end of the video.

Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
I am adding it to my booth. I need to buy a box of disposable plastic food service gloves and a hair cutting drape cape. This stuff will stain your hands and could stain the customers clothes; so I will be posting a disclaimer about covering their head with an old towel when taking off or putting on clothes and maybe sleeping on an old pillowcase or something (plus I'll be telling them all that as I apply it to them)
Hair spray will help keep it in... and I will offer them a spray of that if they want it.

Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
Yup. I'm still seeing mass spreading of lice here. But I have a bit of a hair phobia.
Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
In some jurisdictions you need a license to touch hair... to do anything, even braids. So this may be covered by that.
Also, there was a lot of discussion about artists pastels on another group I'm on with several fine artists... Oil pastels are toxic so should not be used.
Chalk would be okay BUT can be irritating to the respiratory tract plus fall off and get on clothes, etc.
When I want to colour hair I just put face paint in it... Or, use the coloured hairsprays which you can use on small bits of hair in multiple colours too. They are messy though so I don't use them often.

Technically, I think you do need a license to even touch hair in New York State... but every festival & fair has hair feathers or tinsel or something and they are not patrolled by the hair police. However, this could be an issue with the Color Rubs as far as insurance goes. I was thinking of that last night. I think I will print up a little disclaimer to sign and keep track of the names of the people I have done so I will know for sure who my customers were. I don't think it will be a big deal. The girls & women around here LOVE to have it done.
I will definitely post my review after BalloonFest this weekend.

Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
I did this on my maniquin last night..using the neon rainbow cake..it worked really good...[img][/img]
Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
Gonna try it on my hair today before I paint tonight..I have blonde hair so I have no idea what it will look like on me..lol
I touched the hair this morning and it doesn't rub off..but feels just a tiny bit stiff but not to bad...the chalking on the videos looks to be stiff..and I think would just make a big mess...just my 2 cents...
I used a sponge to put the paint on..

Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
The chalking isn't stiff at all... I did it with chalk pastels last week on my own hair and it didn't change the feel of my hair at all. I've used face paint on hair before... yucky, didn't like doing it.
Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
thats nice to know...it just looked stiff on you tube and they didn't bother to comb it just curl it..do you need to put heat to it seams like it would rub off..?
Re: Silly Farm's Color Rub (for hair)
Don't know about the heat part...
When I talked to Silly Farm they said that hair spray makes it last longer, but it will still have the capacity to transfer onto clothing or pillowcases.
