What if it rains??
Ok, I have bought my tent and have my first festival in a couple weeks. I am so excited, but what if it rains? Do I need to invest in glitter tattoos and henna just in case, or what? Im in Missouri, so the chance for rain is always there. I plan on doing a lot more festivals in my area and will be devistated if I spend all the money to get in only to have it rain and make nothing. Also concerned because we can have some seriously hot and humid days. I have had to paint or should I say attempted to paint a couple women in the midst of a hot flash, only to watch my paint run off. Is that what it is like in the summer? What should I do then?
Advice? Please?

Re: What if it rains??
Hot and humid = Starblends or Luminere powders. Painted in Arizona once where it was seriously HOT but dry. No problems with paint running (it was drying on my brush actually). Hot and humid and sweating are just a setup for messy face painting. I recently invested in Starblends and a Luminere palette. Love them!

Re: What if it rains??
it's the chance we take with festivals.... I have balloons and Glitterfly has glitter tattoos... it's nice to have SOMETHING in case, but it's like a lottery doing festivals.
Re: What if it rains??
I refuse to do festivals anymore after my last experience. It was 4 days long and I turned down SOOOOOOO many parties to do this festival. A tent was required and that was no problem as I already had one... a $200 one that was used once prior. Well the first night the tent was ruined in the wind/rain. Went to Walmart and bought another for $100. 3rd day that got ruined. 4th day, just had no tent........ Sunburned to death. I paid $250 for the spot, after all of the rain and bull I made like $140
AND on the only day that was actually nice and sunny (the day without a tent) I see people face painted and find out that they had someone doing it for free right outside the festival. GRRRRRRRRR......... Not worth it at all.

Sorry you've had such a bad experience with festivals. I've been doing them for 3 years and have never had a bad one because of weather ....of course now that I've said that, I probably will
Re: What if it rains??
I just rolled in from an annual music festival in Yosemite. We painted all through Friday and Saturday in and out of grey skies, rain, hail and huge snowflakes and lovely sun. If it rains you go with the flow. That's festival work!
Re: What if it rains??
I paint at a festival up in the Rockies every August longweekend... and in the two and a half days we are there each and every year we experience the seven plagues and the four seasons....
Two years ago the heavens opened up and the deluge began about two hours before the end of the second day... the rain was blowing in sideways so we shut it down and tried to get everything in the car (which is RIGHT beside the tent) as fast as we could... we were saturated, my palettes had to have the water poured out of them... we got the last thing in the car and slammed the door... RIGHT that second the canopy collapsed from the water load on top and all the uprights bent...
We got in the car and drove up to the office, collected our cheque early (quitting early wasn't challenged) and went to the hotel to attemp to dry out.
