Tomorrow!
Not sure where to post my news! But my mom n law asked me to FP at a function tmrw for her church! It's a really small church so they asked for free! I'm game cuz I have nothing to do and I can get some good practice in on my masks.should I put a tip jar out? Im so excited!!
Re: Tomorrow!
Only if you ask permission. But make sure you have some business cards, if only temporary ones.
Re: Tomorrow!
Painting for free? Absolutely tip jar. I wouldn't even ask. I would make it part of the deal to begin with.
With a nice pretty sign that says
My Time Is Being Donated Today.
Thank you for Tipping!

Re: Tomorrow!
Definitely a tip jar! I'd personally ask for at least some amount from the church to cover expenses of your equipment. Or just say you'll take tips to cover your costs, just so people realize that free to them means cost to you! (Although I do paint for free for my own church's Halloween party without a tip jar...but it's different when it's not your church!) Have fun!!!

Re: Tomorrow!
Well since I use to go there, and its super duper small..I dnt mind.they are trying to get more folks to join tomorrow! Any other church I'd charge!
Re: Tomorrow!
I also paint for my own church for free. I always have business cards out and my hubby stands by and talks me up to people in line. I have gotten a few birthday parties from those volunteer events too! It also gives me something to put on my facebook page (come have your face paired for FREE at...) and then some of my followers will come out and have a great time too.

Thank you for that suggestion. I am struggling with the same thing right now...a "free" event that will put me out of pocket but will be great for exposure. I have been trying to figure out a respectful way to put something on the jar and that one is PERFECT!

Re: Tomorrow!
So I'm back! I painted bout 15-20 faces! Spiderman, snakes, tribal and butterflies, rainbows and flowers! Only got two pics! One of four of the girls and the one lil boy who would not sit still! He kept giggling and singing! Oh and I did a Hello Kitty!
I only made $2 in tips! But the kids kept blocking it!

Good fory you Acarreon. It sounds like you had fun. I firmly believe that you "Have to Give to Receive" and it sounds like you gave it your all!
Re: Tomorrow!
I agree totally! It was fun! I love kids and would rather work with kids then adults any day!
Re: Tomorrow!
I'm late to the game here. I face paint often for my church & just charge a product fee. It keeps my cost down & I put the $ into my volunteer church kit (only the free church help gets to use this kit & I have almost stopped bringing my own kit).
For your mother-in-laws church it can be a bit tricky... You're mixing family in, so be careful. I'd personally not put out a tip jar at this event. I never put one out at my own, but I'm also in leadership at my church & don't want someone to feel obligated. But, this is a personal thing for me....
