Disney bought Marvel????

Did anyone else hear about this? I guess they wanted more of the boy market, so they bought Marvel. (They have the girl thing locked in with Hannah Montana and High School Musical).

So is the Mouse gonna put the smackdown on trademark usage for Spidey masks?

Yes, a lot of people are upset about that, and fearing that they will start to mix the universes. And that they will start to require a certificate or something to draw Marvel characters. But people was also upset when they bought Pixar, and they are still the same.

One would think the the "culture" of spider man and the hulk would remain the same... that is what Disney was buying in the first place. People love the characters, and that's why people want to pay us to temporarily help them pretend to be them. And it helps to perpetuate the fantasy of the superhero. It's good for the Brand, and it's good for us too.

All I know is Disney better leave my X-Men alone...or I'm going rogue on them. Ha!

I don't know about going Rogue on them. Having the Disney psyche stuck in your head? Just don't hold on too long!

Does this mean Disney now owns part of the Universal Parks in Florida? Spidey, the Hulk, XMen are all at Universal. I don't want a disney version of Harry Potter when that park opens next year!

I was wondering that same thing.... Either Spidey and Friends have eviction notice pending, or Universal will be paying out the yin for use of characters owned by the Mouse. Disney hasn't bought Harry, yet.

I saw Spiderman in Toy R Us yesterday (my current job involves going around the city giving free Webkin-type stuffed animals and Moxie Girlz Stickers to children, and what better place to find kids than Toys R Us...as if I need an excuse to go there lol!). Anyway my work partner wanted a picture with Spiderman and he said he actually wasn't allowed to be in any personal photos...just those taken by the photog who was with him...rules of the big kahunas at Disney/Marvel. You know, I love Disney, even worked in Fanasyland for awhile, and it is "magical" as they say...but yeah that mouse can lay a smackdown with the best of them! It looks like all fun and games, but they have got an iron fist when it comes to business, and they use it liberally.

And I agree, Debbi...hopefully nothing to be concerned about yet...they TOUCH Harry Potter, someone will probably smack them with an Avada Kedavra before they finish signing the contract.
