Practing flowers..
I have a party to paint for this Friday so I'm practicing as many flowers, butterflies, and spidermans as possible try to get quicker and quicker and try to get better and better.
Here are two of the same type of flower. How are they? I believe it's a huge improvement from when I've started
Any comments/suggestions? Anyway I could spice them up or make them better?
Thanks for looking!

Re: Practing flowers..
This was a "doodle" I did this morning before I started a PPF gig. You don't have to go into as much detail as I did with the outlining, BUT I've seen a huge difference in my flowers since I started double loading my brush.
Load a #7 round with the colour of the edges of the petals, then dip just the tip into the colour you want at the inside corner of the petals. Lay your brush down twice for each petal and they look like pansies to me. I personally like to see several flowers going around the side of the face rather than one big one, but I'm sure you could make this work for big ones too if you used a bigger brush or did that and then added a few wider strokes around to make it bigger still? I took a lot of time to outline these, but they look almost as good even without the outlines.

Re: Practing flowers..
I actually practiced that once and failed miserably
However what you have showed me is beautiful, definitely worth trying!

I think that whatever brand of paint you are using may be hindering you. Would love to see what you could do with some nice, opaque color and some good black and white for linework. Just my opinion.

Re: Practing flowers..
I feel the same way ;(
After some members here suggested it I'm going to try and find Snazaroo paint around because I too feel that the paint is not very good seeing other members work.

Re: Practing flowers..
funny... I thought that looked like "beginner" Snazaroo work... not to say that there is anything wrong with what you did, but it took me over a year to figure out how to make Snazaroo as opaque as I have it now.
Re: Practing flowers..
Do you have any splits? If you could make even a simple split it would help give flowers the dimension. If you can't make splits, then use a 3/4" flat brush load it and then dip the tip into a contrast color (wet the contrast color first so it doesn't suck the water from your first color) and rub it on your arm a bit to blend and then make the flowers with the contrast on the outside. Do the same with the leaves. Then lastly use white for dots in the middle of the flowers and highlights.
In the pictures I used yellow dipped in red, light green dipped in black and white highlight (then I added some tiny black dots to give it a lily look). The purple is dark purple with royal blue edges with dark green leaves with white dip. I put yellow teardrops in the middle (press them on like blossoms instead of paint) I put white highlights inside of the petals this time.
I think the biggest problem I see is that you are painting the flowers. Use your brush strokes to create the shapes then your flowers will be repeatable time after time.
Have you watched Lisa Joy Young? or Emma and I shot a blossom video too. I bought a wonderful ultra round brush from Snazaroo (it's red and called Large Round) and I'm loving it for blossoms. Those suckers can make any butterfly or fairy mask look fabulous. Here's our video and watch LJY's too.

Good luck!

No splits here, wish I could but at this time not a possibility, thank you for the tips!
Re: Practing flowers..
Metina is super quick with shipping if you order from the fpf shop, so if you ordered from her tomorrow you would have your paints in plenty of time. When I say quick, I mean super quick. I put my last order in on a Friday night and it was on my doorstep Monday morning. I swear, she's like super woman or something, and the USPS packaging is just for show so that she can keep her cover.
If money is a problem for you (I know it was for me when I was your age), maybe see if your parents will loan you the money. You definitely have a lot of potential. You just have to convince them that with the right products you could make this a legitimate business and make more than enough money off of it to pay them back.
Also, check your local craft store to see if they have snazaroo. A lot of people have had luck finding snaz party kits in their local Michael's stores (I haven't, unfortunately, but you might have some luck).

SEcond that on Metina's shipping, she is so very fast! Another place to try is Barnes and Noble...get the Klutz face painting book (if you have a michaels, get a 4- ro 50% off coupon and get the book there) it comes with a Wolfe appetizer pallet and a #2 or 4 brush that is decent. The book is 35 bucks, but, especially if you get it with the coupon, you have wolfe white and black, a red, green, blue, yello and orange. If you can find some snaz kits to round that out, you can be in pretty good shape. Also, do a search in your area for Costume shops that carry theater make up. They often carry face paint too and clown make up, my local store carries paradise, ben nye, and some kryolan products, and you just might get lucky. Hobby lobby may also have the 18 ml snaz cakes in basic colors, and Tulip, but I would stay away from most of the Tulip expept for the Silver (buy it!) and the lavender and bright yellow are OK, the black is passable, but the rest all stains terribly. I have never tried their white if you can find it.
Go for the Wolfe pallet in the klutz book with a coupon. Best beginner buy out there, best emergency kit too.

Re: Practing flowers..
Make that 25 bucks, the klutz book is 24.99. I need new glasses...next week I will be able to see
Re: Practing flowers..
And if you can't find any of these, pm me. I have some scraps of paint left over from some splits that I could probably send you if you want to pay shipping. You would probably have to buy a plastic palette from walmart to put them in, as they are currently wrapped in plastic wrap and don't have containers, but they will work until you can get something.
