Ever Face Paint for Trade? Empty Ever Face Paint for Trade?

Post by Psalmbook Wed Aug 31, 2011 6:41 pm

I have to say this is a new & exciting idea for me! Very Happy
I got a call from a pest control company to face paint for their family picnic(my hubby teaches Sunday school to one of their employees kids & he got them to hire me). Well, my pest control service expired a few months back & while I'm not seeing any crawling critters I really hate bugs & would love to start getting regular service. So, on a whim I asked if they'd be interested in a trade. So, for 2 hours of face painting & balloon twisting I will get a 1 year pest control contract cheers

So my question is have you ever traded your services with others services & if so what's the best trade you've ever got?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE trading. I currently trade for massages, hair cuts and color, passes to museums, food, home decor, you name it! Sometimes I do it just at a festival with a neighborly vendor, sometimes its bigger and I make a statement if its something I use over time (like massages).

Great trade though! That is way awesome!

I have not had a successful trade but SCORE on the year of pest control! We are neighbors, so I know all to well about Palmetto Bugs and Oak trees. lol! My 6 year old calls the fall "cockroach season" because of how bad they get when the leaves come down.

I trade for photography, gym/dance classes for my girl, things with vendors at other festivals (food, jewelry, the likes) I do it if it is something I am going to spend money on anyway. Might as well trade.

Yes, they're writing up a years service agreement. I agree w/ "Fall" being Cockroach season here in FL. I asked my daughter if she minded twisting for 2 hours without pay & she said she'd gladly do it if it meant keeping the roaches out(this coming from the child that wanted a pet Hisssing Madagascar Cockroach as a pet when she was 5) Very Happy .

It's the big spiders that freak me out(my one true fear of ever going to Australia are the giant aggressive spiders affraid

Other than my fair sandwich Smile I've done gift certificates for a smoothie place. I'm planning on offering trades at that grocery store that has the kids fair every year, I shop there all the time. I got a bracelet and a pair of earrings too...forgot about that.

Seems like it would make business owners think outside the box if you offered it. I don't mind as long as it's something I would normally use.

So far I've only traded with family and friends. I'll paint at their party for them taking all 3 of my girls over night so that my husband and I can have a night to ourselves.

I just got an offer from a woman through craigslist asking to trade face painting and ballooning for laser hair removal. At first I was kind of excited since that's something I want but haven't been able to afford.

...But! (there's always a but)...

I researched her business and read some not-so-great reviews - mostly about how ineffective her treatments were, as well as some other pretty notable complaints.

What else would you expect from craigslist, after all? Rolling Eyes

I emailed her back and just told her that I'm not interested in the laser hair removal, and asked if she has anything else she'd like to offer. We'll see!

I've done some events for a local hardware store where they paid me half my regular rate in cash and then gave me the other half in gift cards. Since I own a house and there's always something we're working on, it was a great deal.

The latest deal I did was free VIP concert tickets for the KISS concert. I gave them to my husband and had him take a friend since they're not really my genre. He said it was the best concert he's ever been to. They sat in a semi private booth area where can walk around comfortably and get food service. So I got big brownie points with my husband and his buddy is a super handyman that's always 'handy' to have 'owe' you Wink

I got Carolyn to join me in the facepainting and she got free tickets too. We made almost a couple hundred dollars in tips as well. We were supposed to be there only 2 hours, but ended up staying 4. We were pretty popular!

This morning I painted for an Australian active wear company called Lorna Jane (keep your eyes peeled US girls, coming soon to the states, and Aussies looooove em) and got vouchers from them. I'm about to go back to the gym and now I am pimpin big time-flash as!! I have assisted on their campaign shoots with makeup a couple of times.

Oh and the spiders here- you would go nuts Psalmbook, my house is like spider heaven. Small ones are the size of your palm.... creepy and ewww.

Here is Lorna Janes website www.lornajane.com.au fyi <3 www.lornajane.com.au

This are some great trades! I'd love to get football game tickets for the hubby... hmmm.... I bet I'd still make enough in tips to make it alomost a paying gig.
