Henna Supplies Wanted Empty Henna Supplies Wanted

Post by kyfaceandbodyart Fri Jun 26, 2009 10:58 am

Hello All,
I am wanting to try Henna (never done it before). I would like to trade if possiable. I have several empty poof bottles, various sizes from 1/2oz to 8oz (All New). They can be used for glitter, water, etc. I also have several poof bottles of Amerkian Body Art glitters, various colors and sizes, (Most never used, a few used a little). I am wanting a small Henna kit, just enough supplies to help me try it out. I may have other things, just let me know what you are looking for. I would also consider just buying it.
Let me know if you can help. Thanks.

best page ever on that subject! All you need is good henna, lemon juice, sugar and some cones (or a bottle, like the ones for glitter). It is the world smallest kit! Okay, maybe also some designs, but else =)

If you just wanna use it to try on yourself, for the sake of patterns and ability, try going to an international grocery store. I go to the asian market here and get it for $3.95 pre-mixed. It's not good for long term, (at all,) but good to use when experimenting. Then upgrade from there. Smile

Sorry, I just wanted to be clear. I use the pre-mixed for practice basically, not on customers or clients.

Just remember that what you get in groceries and so almost always have to be filtrated before use, so half of it you have to throw out because there are to many small twigs and so in. With the body art quality you don't have to. It don't cost that much more and it is a lot easier! You don't need to buy a lot. About 5 g. per hour is what I can use the most.

You can get the Jamila dry henna brand in a box from Amerikan Body Art and make your own as you need it too..... It is one of the higher quality brands that is super sifted and finer grade with great stain. Lots of recipes can be found online. True henna artists usually develop their own recipes.

Has anyone seen the henna and glitter tats used together? I've seen images of what looks like it would be both, but not sure.

I saw something online that showed you can poof glitter onto the henna while it's still wet, or you can actually mix the glitter in with the henna before you apply it. I've never tried it myself, though.

I have tried sealing the henna with glitter. Works best with big designs, since you have to do it like with glitter tattoos. First apply glue, wait for it to dry, and then glitter on top.
If you have a really small detailed design, it takes forever drawing over one more time. And if you just fill the whole thing with glue/glitter, you can't see the design.
But on big tribals and so, it looks great!

Be VERY careful if you order from henna king, as he sells MANY harmful black henna products.

Henna Supplies Wanted Empty Re: Henna Supplies Wanted

Stacey,

I took a class once and really learned a lot.....but

For me the hardest part is the practice part... If my stuff looks like crap, then you have to live with it for a week or more....that had always been a turn off for me, but did you know there is a sweet way to practice. You need some of those triangles to roll into cones....Practice rolling them to get a beautiful point then fill them with premade chocolate frosting that you have thinned just a bit to get the henna consistency. Now practice. The more you like chocolate, the more you should practice because with each practice design, you get to lick it off and start over.

Story behind this is when I took the class with Angela McCall in Fairfax Va, She started our practice using chocolate frosting. What a wonderful Idea...it looks like henna paste!!!! She had a bunch of people come by at the end so that we could practice on them. Well, I just couldn't do that to anyone with real henna. I watched others over and over and then in trying to talk a young man into getting a henna done by one of the others and I suddenly realized that he really felt like I did. I pulled him aside and we had a side bar, he agreed he would get a 'henna' on the back of his hand if I did it.....The rest was up to him.

So now I do a 'henna' on the back of his hand and he walks away with it into the other room where a large group is mingling. He shows everyone his 'henna' and says how much he hates it. People go to reassure him, but he continues how much he hates it THEN he licks it off. Pure quiet, followed by a group gasp and then a SCREAM and then lots of Laughter. The scream came from his mom, they all thought that he just ate henna, by now you know it was chocolate. I got the biggest group of kids then asking me to practice on them....It wasn't because I was good, it was because it was Chocolate!!!!

I highly recommend practice with chocolate, it's not perfect but it really is tasty.

I actually recommend chocolate for practice to students who take my henna workshops also.
You can actually use ANY flavor (in case you don't like or can't have chocolate) of frosting as long as it doesn't have "chunks" of anything in it.
You thin the frosting to a nice consistency by adding a bit of corn syrup.

You could use lots of things... ketchup, mustard, mayo, Herseys syrup, grape jelly (warmed a little), honey... hmm, maybe not honey... bbq sauce, toothpaste...

You can also use henna and practice on paper to get the basic moves and strokes into your hand.
Or henna that is old (like it's been made a week ago), on the hand it will last only a short while, but you still get the feeling on how it dries, how it comes off and so on.

Will definitely try the chocolate idea!

Post by modernmagik Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:05 am

be careful using old henna.....it is great for decorating things like envelopes, boxes, etc.....but it will not behave the same way as fresh henna for good practice. As the henna paste gets older, it will start to get clumpy and bits will dry and cause clogging.....so it will not handle the same as a smooth fresh paste for design work and practice. You would more likely just become frustrated.
It is a lot like practicing face painting on one of those plastic heads. While it is fine for laying out a new design, it sucks for practice of technique because it is just not the same as painting on real skin.

Another suggestion is Liquid bling to add to your design I have been doing that for a while now and the results are awesome and look very pretty.

If henna supplies are still needed, I may have everything you need. I have tons of powder and premixed cones that are ready to go. I do not have jaq bottles at the moment but I can probably get some if they are needed. Oils and recipes are also available.

Alicia,

Post some pics with the glitter gel and glitter you have done. I took Alicia's class at Fab. and she showed us how to take a $10 henna tat up to $25 with some glitter and glitter gel.

Here are a couple of the pics.

Here's a henna I did this weekend with Alicia's mix. I sprayed it with spray bandage and covered it with plastic over night and the color was amazing in the morning.
