Arty Cake Pallet
So, I am thinking that I want to make my next purchase a 15 pack pallet of arty cakes from Silly Farm. But what 15 cakes to choose??? I know I want a rainbow in there but for you arty cake and split cake users, what are the ones you like best, and use most? Thanks.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
imo it is a huge waste of money.
First they are over priced.
You would easily pay half if you bought the colors from metina (tag works great) and made them yourself.
2nd, i can tell you from experience that you won't use 15 split cakes. A bunch will just sit there collecting dust.
I have around 30 home made split cakes myself and even though i might have used most once or twice, the old standbys are the ones that actually have some wear and tear..
As for split cakes that I use often...
Fire, Leaf, rose, pansy, peacock, water, mermaid, and purple(black/violet/purple/light purple/white)

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
So far I've liked the TAG split cakes better than the few arty cakes I've had. They are easier to load fully (because you can lay the brush flatter) and I personally think the colors are brighter.
I have liked the sparkly rainbow cakes from sillyfarm though. I have a couple of those I like. They aren't good for linework because the paints individually are a little clumpy....but they look great on the skin. I'm thinking of ordering a Pearl TAG rainbow cake.
Wouldn't be without: Flame, Snake, Dolphin, Neon Rainbow, Magpie, haven't used my rose & black iris as much but the girls like them. I'll be ordering Teddy Bear, Unicorn & Dragon next and maybe Ocean since I like sharks & Dolphins.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE my splits and use them ALL the time Melinda. Some are homemade, some are TAG, some are sillyfarm. Some are arty cake size, some are DFX 32 g size, some are rainbow cakes...but they aren't just collecting dust in my kit!
I like the sparkle dust (butterflies, flowers, backgrounds), the bright rose for roses, and the 'midnight' for a bunch of things (butterflies, flowers, backgrounds). Personally I didn't find myself truly happy with the sillyfarm rainbow but I'm wondering if the new packages will make it more loveavble. I also use my dark green/light green silly farm rainbow cake (snakes, dragons, leaves, trees, etc). And at least once per gig I'll get asked to use my turquoise/white/blue split that I special ordered.
My homemade ones are DFX, and I made myself an orange/pink/gold because I loved my sparkle dust.
I have TAG black iris and magpie and I use them for everything from roses to dragons to butterflies to tattoo designs. I also wish that TAG would make their pearl rainbow into a small cake. I tried out the large TAG pearl rainbow a few months ago and I was really happy with it.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
Thank you all for your input. I love all of the different viewpoints. I have really been enjoying looking at your designs Rebecca and am amazed at the beautiful designs that can come from just a few strokes. I can really see myself using these for pretty designs like the one you posted above. Thanks again everyone!
Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I have to say that I used the arty cake brand for the first time at LaFette and lliked it way much more than my home-made jobbies. now part of that may be that the colors from all my splits came from cakes in my first pallett- Paradise- which we all know is creamier/blendier than some of the other brands- which could explain the difference. I found the arty cakes that Rebeca offered were so much better behaved than the ones I had made.
Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I put one of those cases in each of my booths, and they sped up the work my girls do hugely.
I will look up which 15 I chose because I don't know off the top of my head but I can tell you peacock, aussie mermaid, bright leaf and ruby skies are the ones we use the most.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I just last week put in my order for the 15arty cake palette... I figured that buying them all together each split cake worked out to be less that $10.00 and then you get the case and a brush as well!
I am pretty sure I can definitely use them. I already have 7 others and they are used so much I have reached the bottom in a few of them. I love love love the arty cakes!!!
In my order... (and I spend a long time making this decision!) I have...
Bright Leaf
Bolt
Midnight
Peacock
Butterfly
Ruby Sky
Tropical
Holly Berry
Candy Heart
Pixie
South Beach
(One I cant remember the name of but it was purple pink yellow and white)
A Petal floral.. one (again I cant remember the name) (pinks and whites for roses)
Pink Silhouette
Indian Sunset

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
Jodi,
Have fun choosing. I have been wondering myself how to choose. Thanks for asking the question. Sounds like peacock is gonna be fun. Whenever I buy or make a new split I get so inspired. Just keep painting. Just keep painting. Just keep painting.

i'm painting the designs on wax paper....so, they are quick, rough ideas
i used teddy bear, fire, ocean, candy corn, fire fly,

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
Rebecca they look fantastic, I shall keep an eye out for your albums too. I'd heard about using wax paper to practice on somewhere on fb. I will have to give it a go. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
Rebecca, I love that idea. I have a few different small splits and I just blank right out on what to do with them so I'm looking forward to being inspired by you! I just added you on FB (I'm Bettie Spagetti).
I love the longer length of the TAG so I'm looking forward to trying out the new Arty Cakes. I thought I heard that they were going to be available to other distributors than just Silly Farm, maybe Metina will stock some....?

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I love those ideas, too, Rebecca. I am in love with the little fishies that you do with the arty cakes! I saw your body painting that won a competition that was underwater themed with lots of those fish, just beautiful. Can't wait to try them.
Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I am waiting on my 15 arty cake palette to arrive. As I posted in the product thread, At the current price it is a great value and with the coupon I had, it brought the price of each cake to less than $9.00 and I use my Arty cakes often. Right now they are the best value for size and price. I bought a few at FABAIC and love them. The new ones will be my reserve until I use up the original ones I have. I may be so inclined to order a second one.... so hard to choose from all the color combos and because you never know when the price may change. I have a couple of the Tags as well and if they lower their price, well then it's all good.
I am done making my own splits, except for my little mini purse palette.

Re: Arty Cake Pallet
I'm so sorry Metina, I guess I got mixed up and posted it in the wrong place. My bad.
