Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
Hello Everybody.....
I'm planning on getting one of those black laptop cases for my paints, I'm currently using a scrapbooking case and its a little bulky. My thing is that I have all kinds of brands and some of them are 90mg, I was wondering if they will fit on them cases since they are so thin. Also wondering how many I will be able to fit and I'm planning on removing the foam insert and be able to velcro my paints both sides just like on the scrapbooking case.
So I will love to read your imput regarding the the laptop cases, vs the scrapbooking ones..which one do you think is better..
Here is an old pic of my scrapbooking case, as you can see it is bulky. Got rid of my starblends to make room for some more paints lol
Thanks in advance!!

Hey hey!
I know that you can't fit 90 gram paints into the Mehron laptop cases.
But a some artists have their 90 gram cakes separate from the rest of their cakes and just take out the 90's when they need them.
Sorry, I'm no help at how many actually fit w/o the foam though.
Best wishes!

Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
I have put all of my paints into a bead/craft organizer. It was the best thing i've ever done to reorganize. It holds so much paint and takes up very little space.

I have my paints in the black laptop cases, and work with them just fine

Lol! Yeah Heff, I keep telling myself I'm gonna downsize, then I go through trying to find a color I'm willing to part with and I just can't find one. What can I say, I love my paint.
Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
I love how they are so well organized, by color shades..neat!
I had the feeling that the scrapbook case holds more paints but I've been having trouble finding thin ones, so far only seen like the one I have...
The bead storage case sounds good to downsizing, but I dunno IMHO they look kind of messy, might be me being weird..
Thanks guys!

Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
I have 1 scrapbook case & 1 black laptop. I like the scrapbook case soooo much better. The black laptop has a hard time staying shut(it has a lousy latch system). Since I store my cases upright in my fatmax, sometimes my laptop paints will fall out of the case. The scrapbook case has a solid latch that holds it shut. I do velcro the paints in & this has helped.
Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
Ohhh... look how full my paints were when I took that bottom photo. I so need to place an order

I have color obsession issues too I keep mine in the TAG palettes and I really love them - I can use a sponge easily. The only issue is that the pots are too small for full body painting so I do have to have a separate kit for that.

OMG! Lookit all those split cakes!!!!!!!!! *sigh*
But there is a sale at Micheal's today....I think that picking up one of those cases sounds like a plan...looks like the thinner one is a bit less bulky for packing. I may be paint starved now, but I will be adding to it asap.

Heff, are the TAG palettes easy to keep clean?
Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
Linda..where do you store your cases inside the fat max, in the bottom part?
I'm planning on getting a Fat Max also..

Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
OMG... I would have to have to de-lid and re-lid all those though. That's why I use my laptops... No messing around with the lids.

Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
OK so just a thought......... how many colors is too many??? I know in my working kit. For example Typically for the most part I work with my 2 laptop cases of DFX each holds 12 pots but each pot is split with 2 colors thus 48 colors, plus a 6 color flesh tones palette and an 8 color pastels palette.
I have a 3rd laptop full of starblends, but I tend to use starblends more in the warmer months
I have a 4th laptop of 20 artycakes and 3 large SF rainbow cakes
I have a 5th laptop case with my kryolan colors, inteferenze, and Ben nye lumieres.
Oh lets not forget the paradise I recently ordered and all the homemade splits and RB cakes I've made
yikes now having read my own post.....why did I even ask

I have that set up and I've fixed the bottoms of the paints to the scrap book cases so I do not have to mess with lids. I used U-Glu (yes, as seen on TV) but some people use velcro, etc.Clayton wrote:OMG... I would have to have to de-lid and re-lid all those though. That's why I use my laptops... Someone also mentioned a special type of magnet, too ...
Changing Faces brings up such a good point. I think some folks here thought I was crazy to stick to one brand but I have become so obsessed over feeling the need for a complete kit with all the colors (maybe because of all the snow the last month and a half here I'm feeling a little batty anyway) that if I didn't force myself to stick with one brand (I've already graduated to wanting other products from that brand, splitcakes...) I would never stop buying! I'd always feel incomplete! Talk about a blatant expression of our American "always must buy more" syndrome to feel five minutes of gratification before wanting the next thing...arggghh...get me to a shrink...!

Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
It's not a matter of sticking to one brand so much, for example the starblends are for a specific purpose as is the Ben Nye.....knowing they would not be used all the time. And at some point you will want to have a "complete kit" (whatever that means for you). For me it means being able to have and offer different applications to offer to different customers.
But my original point I was trying to get at was regardless of the brand how many colors is too many colors......I mean do you really need to have every shade of every color??? Ex. I have Green Dk Green and Lt. Green
which I think pretty much covers the gammit of what I would need for green, but I have seen some kits with every shade of green that has ever been created....lolol
So again I say how many colors is too many??

Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
I still think what you buy can't be judged by a how much is too much method. Everyone is trying to reach different financial goals and has different expenses to take care of. As long as you are meeting your goals and taking care of your expenses (everyone's are different) then feel free to splurge on the things you want for your kit. I can say that I am actually happy with my kit and don't have a desire to get anything other than metallics because that is the only thing I haven't been able to spring for yet. I would think that there will always come a time when you think your kit is sufficient. I know I think mine is even though I a missing a few metallic colors, I'm still very pleased with what I have.
Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
I am pretty pleased with my kit also...I don't have the skin colors or alot of the pastels.. but for the most part i have alot of the essential colors and alot of the metallic colors.. i have alot of rainbow cakes..the only thing i seam to want more of are brushes, still looking for the right ones. i do like the loew cornell comfort one's but cant get them at michaels any more..the 7000 series seam to be good for me also..as for glitter I just use the white opaque . looks good on all colors of paint.
Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
I'm relatively happy with my kit but it's taken a lot of trial and error to get there. When I buy mixed brands I try to keep in mind whether what I'm buying is beeswax based or glycerin based so that I have a full kit of both types as they serve different purposes and (and least for me) represent two different degrees of wear comfort.
As for cases, I love my magnets and jewelry display boxes because they can each house 24 pots of paint and since I split most of my paints, I can take one box to a party and still have 36-48 colors at my disposal depending on how I mix and match. I also "discovered" an empty mehron case that I bought here a while back and I outfitted it with a piece of metal, slapped magnets on all of my splits and not I have a separate box for them as well. I love that I can take one, two or all three of my cases with me and not take up much room at all...and everything is at my fingertips (and clean up is a snap too!)
One of the most important factors to consider before buying somehting is how much use you're going to get out of it...that's why I don't have many of the flesh colored paint pots; I wouldn't use them much. I refuse to buy strictly from one line because some colors from one brand may not be as highly pigmented as I would like (Snaz Silver and Gold are a good example). I also consider where I'm going to use the paints, I don't use a lot of DFX on the face because it dries tight and I've gotten that complaint enough to be wary, but I still love it for body stuff. Everyone is different and the only good fast rule is NO Acrylics...other than that, do you.

Re: Black Laptop Cases Opinion Vs Scrapbooking cases...
Has anyone thought about maybe using those sewing boxes?
There are boxes/cases that look like the scrapbook ones but are thinner and you can find them at place like Joann's.....I thought I had one but it muse still be in the ex's garage.....

Is it thinner than this? Curious because this depth has worked out perfect for me.
