Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Oh my gosh Gina,
Thank you for the post and Thank you for the compliment
You know what Psalm, I am glad you mentioned that cuz I do have a habit of rubbing the bottom of my chin. Hmmmm either I will have to edit the design or try to be mindful not to touch my face.......yeah right who am I kidding

Do you all use Snazaroo as a base? I was wondering if DFX is too drying for use as a base--especially around the eyes.
Cali, I'd use Starblends, Paradise or Kryolan(I just discovered this awesome paint. Makes a beautiful white base & doesn't run out as fast as Paradise). I don't care much for dfx white as a base, but love dfx metallic white.
Re: Sugar Skull Mask
I may do a sugar skull for Halloween too im fidgety though so I normally totally screw it up if I do a whole face so I may have to do a sugar skull mask as well.

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Awesome designs!
I know this is a very newbie question, but do you use your Starblends wet or dry for bases?

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
I think it depends on the look your going for and what you like to use. Alot of folks use the starblends as bases etc, some use a mix. I myself don't really like the starblends that much. So I don't use them.

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
I think Starblends are best used dry. I love using them. Once you get the hang of how to apply them very quick to go on and good coverage. I have them in about 10 colors. I like having another medium to offer people. Not everyone likes the feel of paint on their face, but they will be receptive to my using powders.
I painted the 6th grade at my daughter's school and there were a few of kids that chose having powder over paint. It doesn't happen a whole lot but it does happen.
Here is the skull I did for today. It went over big big big with the kids, even the boys loved it. So many parents that showed up to take pics of their kids in the parade were stopping me to take my picture. Great exposure and I handed out alot of business cards.

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Thank you for the feedback! Love the masks Changing. Also wanted to be able to offer the powder for bases on little kids, so ordered all the basic colors, but wasn't sure if I used them wet, if I would still be able to use them dry. Was thinking of cutting them all in half to be able to use have two kits...one to use dry only and the other to use wet. They definitely don't cover quite like paints, but I like the feel and the ease they offer. Plus, of course, they wash off so easily. I also received some Kryolan UV pressed powders as a bonus, but can't figure out how to use those either. I tried wetting them and they got all goopy. Any suggestions there?
Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Thank you so much Gina and CC, I am really enjoying painting these. Until Lisa posted her sugar skull I had never seen one before. Now I can't stop painting them. I was able to do this last one in about 20 minutes or so.
CC to try an answer your question once you use starblends wet....not much luck trying to use them dry again. As for the Kryolan UV's I have 3 of them(pink green yellow) that I got free with some previous order a year ago I still don't know what to do with them.

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Lol, okay, so I don't feel so bad about that anymore. They didn't come with instructions and I haven't been able to find any online. Just figured I'd ask.... Love all of your creativity Changing. Love that you just go for it! I have to work on that "no fear!" attitude.
Re: Sugar Skull Mask

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Oh my goodness Gina, if I could I would paint that whole board. I will go thru and pick one out just for you. I will try to get it done this coming week and I'll make sure it is bright and colorful

I'd ask silly farm how to use the uv pressed powder. My Starblends have gotten wet painting this summer in the sweaty heat(yuck) and now they don't work as well. I'm thinking of starting to use them wet, but afraid to try....
Changing, that's my favorite sugar skull so far of yours!!! You're just getting better & better. I painted my 1st one last night & went w/ Lisa's 1/2 mask version.
Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Love the great ideas you ladies come up with.
Wow, Psalm, really like the colors! Great job! Nice to be able to offer girls this type of face, rather than the typical zombie. Thanks for the suggestion with the Kryolan...I'll see what I can find.

Mandi fro Tazzle. Love the roses!!! Most of the roses I've seen use a split cake - did you use one for yours or do you use a color, add highlight and outline? I would love to find a step by step that didn't use a split cake if anyone knows of one out there! I can't wait to do mine!

Re: Sugar Skull Mask
Hi Pixieface,
Yes I did use a TAG rose split cake although the colours had blended a fair bit so it doesn't really look like I used a split. I did also outline the petals in white & a gold glitter which I think really makes them pop.
I could do you a step by step on the rose without a split cake if you want.

Yes - doing a rose without a split cake would be a valuable steo-by-step - thank you Mandi from Tazzie!
I bought some Mehron liquid gold glitter to play with - loving it for the same reason. I can see how it can take a design that maybe didn't come out too "wow" and give it that bling factor to take it up a notch. Thanks!
